Girls take third at conference meet
Boys suffer a narrow loss to Windom, take ninth in Big South

The Blue Earth Area girls’ golf team won their match with Windom on May 17 when the Eagles could not field a complete team.
The contest, played at the Windom Country Club, saw the Bucs shoot a team score of 180.
Payten Gudahl shot a nine-hole round of 42 to claim medalist honors. Her round included three pars.
Rylan Storbeck shot a 45 to tie for second place. Storbeck also had three pars during her round.
Kylie Rosenau carded a 46 to finish in fourth place and Katelyn Storbeck had two pars on her way to a round of 47, which was good for fifth place.
BEA’s Madison Ehrich shot a 49, Liz Beeler had a 55 and Ella Survis shot a 79 during the competition.
Big South Conference Tournament
The Blue Earth Area girls’ golf team rose to the occasion and took third place in the 10-team field comprising the Big South Conference Tournament held on May 16, at Dacotah Ridge Golf Club near Morton.
Redwood Valley won the championship with a low score of 354. Fairmont was a close second with 357.
The Bucs’ total of 377 put them ahead of St. Peter, who finished fourth with a score of 386.
Katelyn Storbeck led the Bucs’ efforts with an 18-hole score of 90 which put her in a tie for fifth place. Storbeck had two pars on the par-72 course.
Kylie Rosenau finished in a four-way tie for seventh place with a round of 91. Rosenau knocked down four pars during her round.
Payten Gudahl recorded five pars on her way to a round of 96 which put her in a tie for 16th place.
Rylan Storbeck rounded out the team scoring for the Bucs with a score of 100 to tie for 22nd place. Storbeck had two pars.
Madison Ehrich carded a 106 to tie for 34th and Liz Beeler had a 107 to tie for 37th.
Girls Golf
BEA 203, MCW 282
It was all Maroon and Gold on top of the leaderboard when the Blue Earth Area girls golf team played host to the Martin County Mavericks at Minn-Iowa Golf Course on Thursday, May 12.
Madison Ehrich’s nine-hole round of 49 gave her medalist honors for the day. She had pars on two of the par-five holes during her round.
Payten Gudahl and Kylie Rosenau tied for second place with rounds of 51.
Gudahl shot par on hole No. 4 and hole No. 7.
Rosenau had one par, on hole No. 5, during her round.
Katelyn Storbeck and Liz Beeler each shot 52 to tie for fourth place.
Storbeck completed her round with one par while Beeler had consecutive pars on holes No. 6 and 7.
Rylan Storbeck recorded one par to finish with a 54 which put her in sixth place.
Finishing seventh with a round of 63 was Ella Survis. McKinley Hansen’s score of 69 tied her with the golfer who had the lowest score from MCW for eighth place.
Boys results
Windom 164, BEA 165
It could not have been any closer when the boys’ golf teams from Windom Area and Blue Earth Area met at the Windom Country Club on Tuesday, May 17.
Unfortunately for the visiting Buccaneers, the Eagles from Windom Area pulled off a one-stroke victory, 164-165.
BEA’s Ashton Lloyd was the medalist. The junior golfer finished with an even-par score of 36 on the nine-hole course. He had five pars and two birdies to earn first place.
Nathan Murphy shot a 40 for the Bucs to finish in a tie for third place. His round included three pars and two birdies.
Finishing in sixth place with a score of 42 was Kyren Sunken. Sunken carded five pars in nine holes of play.
The final score used for BEA’s team total was a 47 by Jackson Blondin. He had three pars on the day to finish in a ninth-place tie with teammate Gordy Bruellman, who also carded a 47.
Also golfing for the Bucs was Eli Blagg who finished in 11th place with a 50.
Big South Conference Tournament
The Blue Earth Area boys’ golf team finished ninth in the Big South Conference Tournament held at Dacotah Ridge Golf Club near Morton on Monday, May 16.
St. Peter won the tournament with a low score of 324. Marshall was second with 335 and Fairmont was third with 336. BEA’s score was 368.
Eli Blagg had the low score for the Bucs with an 18-hole score of 90 to tie for 25th place.
Ashton Lloyd shot a 92 to finish in a tie for 33rd and Jackson Blondin and Nathan Blondin tied for 39th place with a score of 93.
Rounding out the Bucs’ scores were Kyren Sunken with a 94 which put him in 42nd place and Gordy Bruellman with a 96 to finish in a tie for 48th.
BEA 169, MCW 188
Martin County West’s boys golfers had the two lowest scores when they met Blue Earth Area head-to-head at Minn-Iowa Golf Course in non-conference action on May 12. But, the Bucs had the next six lowest scores and defeated the Mavericks 169-188.
Ashton Lloyd carded the lowest score for BEA with a nine-hole score of 40. He had two birdies and two pars on the par-36 course to finish in third place at the contest.
Kyren Sunken had a round of 41 to take fourth place at the meet. Sunken eagled hole No. 1 and had four pars on the day.
Jackson Blondin and Gordy Bruellman tied for fifth place. Each golfer finished with a round of 44.
Blondin recorded three pars while Bruellman had two.
Capturing seventh place was Eli Blagg with a round of 47 while Nate Murphy had one par to card a 49 and finished in eighth place.
