Rebels triumph over Bucs and Clippers

Behind a stellar performance by their pitcher, Mariah Anderson, the United South Central Rebel softball team took a 3-0 victory over the Waterville-Elysian-Morristown Buccaneers on Tuesday, May 17.

Anderson pitched all seven innings and allowed just five hits in the shut out victory. She walked three batters but also struck out 10 Bucs in the game.

The Rebels also did well at the plate, getting 11 hits in the game.

Molly Wegner, Erika Johannsen and Taylor Schroeder were all 2 for 3 batting. Sam Swanson, Hannah Meyer, Kendal Harpestad, Chole Lutteke and Lillyan Lutteke all had one hit for the Rebels.

Meyer and Wegner both had a double for USC with Meyer credited with two RBI.

USC got two of their runs in the third inning and added a third run in the fourth inning.

NHREG 1, USC 0

The United South Central girls softball team lost a real heartbreaker on Monday, May 16, when they played the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Panthers.

The game was scoreless through six innings, until the Panthers scored one run in the bottom of the seventh inning and took the 1-0 win.

The game was a pitchers’ duel, with the Rebels held hitless through the whole game and the Panthers only having two hits.

Mariah Anderson pitched the whole game for USC, giving up the one run on two hits, walking three batters and striking out six.

NRHEG’s pitcher, S. Stork, allowed no runs or hits, issued no walks and struck out 13 Rebel batters.

USC 8, Cleveland 7

It was another really close game for the United South Central Rebels girls softball team on Saturday, May 14, when they faced off against the Cleveland Clippers in Cleveland.

But, when the smoke cleared at the end of the game, the Rebels had downed the Clippers by one run, 8-7.

Cleveland took the early lead when they scored one run in the first inning and another one in the second inning, for a 2-0 lead.

But, the Rebels pounded out four runs in the third inning to go up 4-2. The Clippers gained another run in the fourth inning to cut the lead to 4-3.

USC had another four run inning in the fourth, going ahead 8-3. But the game was far from over.

The Clippers scored two runs in the bottom of both the sixth and seventh innings to make the score 8-7 and give the Rebels a scare.

USC had nine hits to Cleveland’s six. Hannah Meyer led the Rebels going 3 for 4 at the plate with three RBI and scoring two runs.

Both Kendal Harpestad and Mariah Anderson were 2 for 4 and scored two runs each, with Anderson having two RBI. Merideth Klingbeil and Paige Petrolla had USC’s other two hits.

Anderson pitched all seven innings for USC, giving up the seven runs on six hits, walking two batters and striking out eight.

USC 12, JWP 2

The United South Central Rebels girls’ softball team pounded out nine hits on their way to a 12-2 win over Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton on Thursday, May 12, in Wells.

USC scored one run in the second inning, and JWP came back and tied it up with a run in the top of the third. However, the Rebels scored two runs in the bottom of the third and another run in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead.

The Bulldogs scored another run in the top of the fifth inning to make it 4-2, but then the Rebels exploded for three runs in the bottom of the fifth and five runs in the sixth for the 12-2 final.

Erica Johannsen led the way at the plate for the Rebels going 3 for 4, scoring three runs and having one RBI. Hannah Meyer was 2 for 3 with two RBI and scoring three runs.

Kendal Harpestad, Mariah Anderson, Molly Wegner and Paige Petrolla each had one hit in the game. Petrolla had three RBI, Wegner and Merideth Klingbeil each had two.

Anderson pitched all six innings and gave up the two runs on four hits, walked two and struck out four.
