The United South Central boys’ golf team shot a 353 to sit in second place following the opening round of the Section 2A Tournament held on Tuesday, May 31, at North Links Golf Course, in Mankato.

The Rebels, along with the first-place team from Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, third-place Sleepy Eye United and the fourth-place Martin County Mavericks will be back at North Links on Monday, June 6, to fight for the chance to qualify for the State Golf Tournament.

The top team in the section plus the five best golfers who are not a member of the section-winning team qualify for the State Tournament.

USC trails JWP, who shot a 344, by nine strokes heading into the final round. The Rebels hold a three-stroke lead over Sleepy Eye United and are seven strokes ahead of the Mavericks.

The Rebels’ Kadyn Neubauer carded an 18-hole score of 79 to finish the opening round in third place, just three strokes behind the leader, Hunter Schmidt of the Mavericks. Neubauer had a birdie and 10 pars in Tuesday’s round.

Luke Pederson is in fifth place after firing a round of 82 which also included one birdie and 10 pars.

Blake Bullerman finished with a round of 93, Carter Hart and Levi Hinkley each carded rounds of 99 and Brennan Anderson shot a 103 to account for the rest of USC’s scores.

The Rebels girls’ team was in action in the Section 2A Tournament on Thursday, June 2. Check next week’s edition of the Faribault County Register for their results.
