The Wells Wildcats and the Minnesota Lake Royals had their baseball seasons come to an end during the Region 6C Baseball Tournament which began on Aug. 6.

The Royals and Wildcats were two of four teams representing the 13/60 League in the double-elimination tournament. The other 13/60 teams in the tournament were the Waterville Indians and the Morristown Morries.

Each team from the 13/60 League faced a team from the River Valley League (RVL) in the opening round of the region tournament.

Unfortunately for the 13/60 teams, the squads from the RVL won all four of the opening round games.

Wells, the No. 2-seeded team from the 13/60 League, faced Belle Plaine, who was the third seed from the RVL, in their first game.

Belle Plaine won the contest 8-3 to send Wells into the elimination bracket where they were matched against Morristown, who were shut out 13-0 in their opening round game against Jordan.

The Morries got the better of the Wildcats by a score of 7-3 to end the season for the team from Wells.

Minnesota Lake came into the tournament as the No. 3-seed from the 13/60 League. They battled Gaylord, the No. 2-seed from the RVL.

It was a close contest with Gaylord winning by a 2-1 margin to send the Royals into the elimination bracket.

Minnesota Lake’s opponent in the elimination game was the Waterville Indians.

The Indians were the top-seeded 13/60 team. However, the No. 4-seed from the RVL, St. Peter, knocked off Waterville 6-4 in the opening round.

Waterville and Minnesota Lake had the two best regular season records in the 13/60 League with the Indians finishing on top of the standings and Royals finishing second.

However, Waterville dominated Minnesota Lake in the elimination game with a 14-4 triumph to end the season for the Royals.

Region play continued on Aug. 13.
