The United South Central Rebel football team ran into a buzz saw when they faced the Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms in Blooming Prairie on Friday night, Sept. 16.

The Blossoms scored a touchdown on every one of their nine possessions of the ball – except one.

The final score was BP 53, USC 20. The Blossoms scored two touchdowns in each of the four quarters of the game. USC only stopped one drive, in the third quarter, with an interception.

The Rebels scored two touchdowns in the second quarter. The first one came on a BP kickoff after the Blossoms had scored a touchdown.

Johnny Martinez caught the kickoff at his own 15-yard line and ran the ball 85 yards for the touchdown. The pass by quarterback Nick Bushlack for the 2-point conversion was incomplete.

The Rebels’ second score of the second quarter came on a 26-yard touchdown pass from Bushlack to Nathaniel Clore. USC converted on the 2-point conversion on a pass from Bushlack to Blake Bullerman.

That made the score at the time 21-14 in favor of the Awesome Blossoms, however they were to score again in the second quarter to take a 27-14 lead over the Rebels into the halftime break.

USC’s third and final score of the game came near the end of the third quarter, on a 2-play, 70-yard drive.

After Bushlack was sacked for an 11-yard loss on the first play, he connected on an 81 yard pass to Taybor Conley who scored the TD. Another pass attempt by Bushlack for the 2-point conversion try was incomplete.

The stats sheet confirmed the domination of the Awesome Blossoms over the Rebels. BP led in every statistic except one. The Rebels had 224 passing yeards to the Blossoms’ 213.

But in total yards, BP led 539 to 234. The Blossoms ran 30 plays to the Rebels’ 11, 68 plays to their 43, had 326 rushing yards to USC’s 10.

Bushlack was 9 of 22 passing for 224 yards. Conley caught two for 119 yards, Clore had three receptions for 44 yards, Bullerman two for 35 and Martinez two for 26.

The Rebels were set for playing Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons on this past Friday night, Sept. 23 for their Homecoming game. Details on that game will be in the next edition of the Faribault County Register. This week USC will be playing at Cleveland on Friday, Sept. 30.
