BEA tames the Tigers in girls tennis
Team is playing well in the final weeks of the regular season

The BEA girls tennis team rounded out the final days of their season with a satisfying 5-2 win over the Marshall Tigers on Tuesday, Sept. 27.
“This was our most complete match of the year,” head coach Spencer Monson commented. “It’s great to see the girls playing their best tennis in the last week of the season.”
After winning a tight first set at No. 1 singles against Marshall’s Regan Loft, BEA’s Addison Armstrong fought all-out in the second set. She won the set with a strong 6-2 finish that secured a victory for the Bucs.
No. 2 singles, meanwhile, was a contentious battle between Buc Olivia Dutton and Tiger Taylor DePoves.
Dutton scored a 6-3 win in the first set, but a close second set led the players to battle for the win in the third set. Dutton emerged victorious, 7-5.
BEA’s Grace Hanson pulled off a win in straight sets at No. 3 singles, defeating Marshall’s Noami Schroeder, 6-3, 6-2.
No. 4 singles was another close match, however. Buc Lauren Survis won her first set against Tiger Siri Christensen, 6-2, but lost the second set, 6-3. Survis fought back for the win with a 6-3 victory in the third set.
Carol Schrader and Ashlyn Klinkner represented BEA at No. 1 doubles against Marshall’s Taylor Miller and Cecily Aufenthu. The pair pulled off a 7-5, 6-3 win for the Bucs.
The Tigers, meahwhile, scored their sole wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Bucs Erika Gaydon and McKinley Hanson took to the court against Tigers Olivia Penske and Eliza Holmgren at No. 2 doubles. Gaydon and Hanson won a close first set in a tiebreaker, but lost the second and third sets 6-3, 6-1.
Erin Prescher and Addison Prescher also suffered a loss at No. 3 doubles to Marshall’s Justine Kirst and Aubrey Schaefer, 6-3, 6-2.
BEA 6, USC 1
When two Faribault County girls tennis teams met on Monday, Sept. 26, it was the BEA Bucs who booked a 6-1 victory over the USC Rebels.
“We finished out Section play on a strong note,” Monson observed following the match. “The whole team played pretty well.”
Buc Armstrong and Rebel Brylee Nuebauer battled it out at No. 1 singles, with Armstrong defeating Nuebauer handily, 6-1, 6-0.
No. 2 singles pitted BEA’s Dutton against USC’s Maya Hansen, who suffered a 6-1, 6-0 defeat to Dutton.
At No. 3 singles, Rebel Emma Johnson played Buc Grace Hanson, who brought a 6-3, 6-0 win for BEA, while Buc Schrader scored a final win at No. 4 singles against Rebel Eva Hernandez, 6-0, 6-0.
Survis and Klinkner took to the No. 1 doubles court for BEA against USC’s Olivia Bungum and Addison Mithun. A close first set ended in a 7-5 tiebreaker win for the Bucs, and the second set was another victory, 6-4, for BEA.
The Rebels secured a win at No. 2 doubles, however. Ivy O’Rourke and Julianna Clore defeated Bucs Gaydon and McKinley Hanson after a three-set battle. Though O’Rourke and Clore won the first set, 6-4, they lost the following set to Gaydon and Hanson, 6-2. A long third set ended in a victory for USC.
BEA was back for a final win at No. 3 doubles, however. Bucs Erin Prescher and Addison Prescher defeated Rebels Claire Schimek and Elise Hanson, 6-1, 6-1.
BEA 7, New Ulm 0
“Great night all around tonight!” Monson declared following the Bucs’ 7-0 victory over the New Ulm Eagles on Thursday, Sept. 22.
BEA slayed New Ulm on the singles courts with a series of solid defeats.
Buc Armstrong booked a 6-2, 6-1 win over Eagle Lydia King at No. 1 singles, while Dutton defeated New Ulm’s Calyn Glaser, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2 singles.
At No. 3 singles, BEA’s Grace Hanson beat New Ulm’s Lana Braun, 6-1, 6-1, while Schrader brought home a final singles victory for the Bucs at No. 4 singles against Eagle Evie Sellner, 6-2, 6-0.
BEA’s doubles teams brought three more straight-set wins for the Bucs.
It was Survis and Klinkner playing for BEA against New Ulm’s Katie Wilker and Joc Pettersen at No. 1 doubles. The Bucs secured a 6-3, 6-2 win over the Eagles.
No. 2 doubles brought another BEA win when Gaydon and McKinley Hanson defeated Eagles Kate Frauenholtz and Karson Schmidt, 6-2, 6-3.
The Bucs triumphed in their seventh match against the Eagles as well, with BEA’s Erin Prescher and Addison Prescher playing New Ulm’s Claire Brown and Emily Pearson for a 7-5, 6-1 win.
“It was fun to see the girls pull out a victory after so many close losses,” Monson concluded. “Hopefully we can keep the momentum going.”
The Bucs completed their regular season with a match against Worthington on Thursday, Sept. 29.
They will proceed to Section play next week, when the Section Team Quarter Finals are scheduled on Monday, Oct. 3. The Team Semi-Finals will take place on Thursday, Oct. 6.
The Bucs will play River Valley Co-op in the Quarter Finals, and if they win, they will then play the winner of the Fairmont versus USC match. The matches will take place at Swanson Tennis Center in St. Peter.
