Minn-Iowa receives state recognition

Minn-Iowa was voted the 15th best course by GolfingMinnesota.com golfers.

Minn-Iowa Golf Course, located just north of Elmore, was recently voted as one of the best golf courses in Minnesota for 2022 by GolfingMinnesota.com golfers.

The nine-hole course, which began operation in 1971, was ranked 15th in the 2022 Best Minnesota Golf Courses list.

“It was quite a surprise actually,” Jason Lloyd, president of the golf course, says. “It is an honor to be on the list.”

Minn-Iowa was the only nine-hole course to make the list for 2022.

“I don’t know what other qualifications there were,” Lloyd comments. “There are a lot of amazing golf courses in the state.”

Lloyd shares he feels the bulk of the credit for the way the course has blossomed should go to greens keeper Josh Bruellman.

“Josh came into a good situation. Grayling Ihle had always done a fine job as the greens keeper before he retired,” Lloyd says. “Josh just took off with it and our greens, fairways and collars have never looked better.”

Lloyd mentions the club decided to lower green fees in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Things really took off and more people were golfing,” he says. “The course was droned and someone in the Twin Cities wrote an article on the course so we got some recognition from that also.”

Lloyd mentions the course is also host for a number of tournaments.

“It really has matured into a very nice course,” he comments. “We try to have a product we can be proud of and it is an honor to be recognized for our efforts.”
