USC tennis team bows out of tourney
The USC Rebels ended their run in the girls tennis team Sections with a 6-1 loss to the Fairmont Cardinals at the Section Quarter Final match held on Monday, Oct. 3.
Rebel Kelsie Chapman was back at No. 1 singles on Monday, suffering a 6-1, 6-2 loss to Cardinal Hope Klanderud.
USC’s Brylee Nuebauer was also defeated at No. 2 singles when she faced Fairmont’s Abigail Peyman. Peyman took the match for Fairmont, 6-2, 6-3.
At No. 3 singles, however, Rebel Lauren Hansen brought her team its sole victory against Cardinal Brynn Gustafson in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.
Fortune favored Fairmont once again at No. 4 singles, though. Cardinal Elly Stegge defeated Rebel Maya Hansen, 6-4, 6-3.
The Cardinals also brought the heat on the doubles court. At No. 1 doubles, it was USC’s Addison Mithun and Olivia Bungum up against Fairmont’s Anika Haugen and Johanna Petschke. Haugen and Petschke took the match, 6-3, 6-1.
No. 2 doubles brought another Cardinal win. Rebels Ivy O’Rourke and Juliana Clore were defeated, 6-4, 6-2, by Cardinals Lilly Laven and Paige Linse.
Fairmont pulled out its final win at No. 3 doubles. Cardinals Solveig Senf and Emelia Klanderud proved a tough pair against USC’s Claire Schimek and Emma Johnson, beating the Rebels, 6-1, 6-1.
