Once again, the winter weather is forcing schools to reschedule some of their athletic events.

“We (the activities directors) are trying to find the earliest date possible when we have to reschedule an event,” Blue Earth Area activities director Rob Norman explained. “We do not want to reschedule contests for the end of the season and then have the weather force us to cancel them altogether.”

The Blue Earth Area boys basketball team had a game against Fairmont which was originally scheduled to be played in Blue Earth on Dec. 16 of last year but was played instead on Dec. 20.

“The girls game that was to be played in Fairmont on Dec. 20 is now scheduled to take place on Jan. 16,” Norman said. “The boys were supposed to play basketball at Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial last Tuesday, Jan. 3, but inclement weather forced us to move that game to Saturday night, Jan. 7. We also have had to reschedule a number of middle school, B and C squad events.”

On the eastern side of Faribault County, United South Central is trying to reschedule two boys basketball games.

“The game we had to postpone from last night (Jan. 3), against Hayfield has to be our top priority to reschedule because they are in our conference,” USC activities director Joe Kuechenmeister said. “Once we find a date that works with Hayfield for that game, we will try and reschedule our non-conference game against Dover-Eyota that we were supposed to play on Dec. 23.”
