Longhorns go 1-1 in triangular meet

The Maple River/United South Central Longhorns won one match and lost one during their home triangular meet on Friday, Jan. 20.
MR/USC defeated the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Panthers 54-18, but they lost to the Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial Area Knights 45-25.
MR/USC 54, NRHEG 18
The Longhorns fell behind 3-0 when MR/USC’s Noah Gonzalez lost a close 3-0 decision to Jacob Karl at 106 pounds, but it would be the only time in match that the Longhorns would trail the Panthers.
MR/USC won the next three matches. At 113 pounds, Wyatt Walters won by a forfeit, as did Braydon Mithun at 120 pounds. At 126 Isaiah Gonzalez won by a pin over Parker Bunn, and the score was 18-3.
At 132 pounds, Kolt Bullerman lost by a fall to Deven Parpart, but MR/USC’s Braxton Simon won by a fall over Aidan Schlaak at 138, and the score was 24-9.
Longhorn Garrett Bollmann lost a 5-1 decision to Ryan Schlaak at 145 pounds and the score was 24-12.
But, MR/USC won the next five matches. Chad Shull took a 7-4 decision over Reese Routh at 152, Byron Getchell won 7-5 over Harbor Cromwell at 160, Tyler Hollerich won by a fall over Wyatt Larson at 170, Max Fuller won by forfeit at 182, Cooper Ochsendorf won with a pin of Cole Huchens at 195 and Dizel Butler won by a fall over Jace Ihrke at 220.
After all that, the score stood at 54-12.
NRHEG won the last match, at 285 pounds, by a forfeit, making the final 54-18 in favor of the Longhorns.
LCWM 45, MR/USC 25
The Longhorns had a lot of trouble with the Knights in their other match of the night.
Noah Gonzalez lost at 106 pounds to Ryder Antony and MR/USC was behind 6-0.
Longhorn Wyatt Walters got a 5-0 decision over Logan Quade at 113 pounds and the score became 6-3.
However, the Knights pulled out four straight wins to take a 24-3 lead. They won by a fall at 120 pounds, a 4-2 decision at 126, a 6-5 decision at 132, and a fall at 138.
Braxton Simon got the Longhorns back on track with a 10-2 major decision over Talan Osborne at 145 pounds and Garrett Bollmann added a pin of Noah Sodeman at 152 and the score was 24-13.
Chad Shull lost by a fall to Austin Northquest at 160 pounds, but Byron Getchell won by a fall at 170 and the score was 30-19, with the Longhorns down 11.
Cooper Ochsendorf lost a very close 2-1 hard fought battle at 182 pounds to Nick Slater, and Max Fuller lost by a fall at 195 and the Longhorns were behind 39-19.
Dizel Butler got a pin over Ryder McMichael at 220 pounds to cut it to 39-25, but the Longhorns had to forfeit at 285 and the final became 45-25.
Next up for the Longhorns was a meet on Thursday, Jan. 26, at Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton.
