Armstrong lands a ticket to State
Buc gymnasts wrap up season with a fifth place finish in Sections

The Bucs joined six other gymnastics programs for the Section Meet held on Thursday, Feb. 16.
Blue Earth Area (BEA) finished in the middle of the pack. Their 128.25 score came up short against Waseca’s 129.35, St. Peter’s 130.6, New Ulm’s 134.175 and Section winner Mankato West’s 144.6, but beat out Martin County Area’s 123.675, St. James’ 97.775 and Faribault’s 57.625.
BEA will send gymnast Addison Armstrong to Saint Paul for this year’s Class A Individual State Meet on Saturday, Feb. 25, to compete on vault.
Armstrong also placed in the all-around at Thursday’s Sections, taking sixth with a score of 34.4. Buc Addy Olson finished with a 31.725, and teammates Tailor Douglas and Lauren Survis pulled a 31.7 and 29.1 in the all-around.
On vault, the Bucs landed a 34.875, and Armstrong’s state-qualifying leap secured sixth place and a 9.0 score. Olson earned an 8.775, while Haley Kalis and Douglas each pulled an 8.55. Survis scored an 8.0.
BEA swung a 30.225 on bars, with Armstrong’s routine garnering an 8.275, and fifth place. Douglas tallied a 7.8 and Olson scored a 7.15. Kalis finished with a 7.0 and Survis with a 6.95.
The team earned 29.725 on beam. Armstrong secured an 8.1, while Douglas and Olson pulled a 7.375 and 7.35. Kalis scored a 6.9 and Survis scored a 6.6.
The Bucs scored a 33.425 on floor, and Armstrong’s routine was good for a 9.025 and sixth place. Olson tallied an 8.45 and Douglas and Kyannah Brandt each earned a 7.975. Survis finished with a 7.55.
Jackson 129.9, BEA 127.45
The Jackson County Central Huskies defeated the BEA Bucs by just a few points on Thursday, Feb. 9. While the Bucs left the meet with a 127.45, the Huskies closed out the evening with a 129.9.
None of the Bucs placed in the all-around, but three of the BEA gymnasts’ all-around scores surpassed the 30.0 mark. Addison Armstrong booked a 33.725, while Tailor Douglas and Addy Olson earned a 32.225 and 32.05, respectively. Lauren Survis finished with a 28.25.
The Bucs tallied 34.125 on vault, with Armstrong’s 8.825-scoring leap taking first place. Olson’s vault secured second place and an 8.55 score. Haley Kalis earned an 8.4, Douglas earned an 8.35 and Survis earned a 7.9.
BEA broke 30.0 on the bars, scoring a cumulative 30.6. Douglas topped her teammates with a 7.9, which was good for second place. Armstrong took third with a 7.825. Olson swung a 7.675 and Survis tallied a 7.2. Kalis earned a 5.65.
The Bucs booked 29.4 on beam, with Armstrong’s routine scoring an 8.05, and taking third place. Douglas scored a 7.975 and Olson scored a 7.425. Kalis and Survis’ routines earned a 5.95 and 5.75.
On floor, BEA landed a 33.325. Armstrong’s routine took first with a 9.025. Olson scored an 8.4, Douglas scored an 8.0 and Kyannah Brandt scored a 7.9. Survis finished with a 7.4.
