BEA track teams compete in Mankato

Indoor meets help squad get ready for upcoming outdoor season

The Blue Earth Area track and field teams may not be able to compete outside yet, but the boys and girls were both back in action for another indoor meet on Thursday, March 31.

The Mankato East Indoor Invite featured the host team Cougars along with Hutchinson, Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton and BEA.

Girls results

Mankato East dominated the meet and finished with 150 points. The remaining three teams were more evenly matched. Hutchinson placed second with 35 points. JWP was third with 30 points and BEA took fourth with 25.33 points.

Addison Armstrong’s time of 64.0 in the 400-meter dash was good for first place at the meet and moved her into sixth place on the BEA indoor honor roll.

Also bringing home a first-place finish was Chloe Groe in the shot put with a toss of 34-4. Taylor Ripley had a throw of 24 -4.5 for a sixth place finish.

Sarah Dohm cleared the high jump bar at 4-4 to take fifth place.

Armstrong and Tailor Douglas each placed in the pole vault. Armstrong took second place at a height of 9-6 while Douglas finished third at 7-6.

Eloise Blair had a time of 11.08 in the 60-meter high hurdles to finish in fourth place.

Aubrey Woodwick recorded a time of 6:27.0 in the 1600-meter run to finish in sixth place.

The 4×200-meter relay team of Kyannah Brandt, Blair, Makayla Grant and Douglas finished in fifth place with a time of 2:08.0.

Douglas, Natalie Schiltz, Sidney Eitzmann and Armstrong ran the 4×400-meter relay in 4:55.0 to finish in fourth place.

In the 4×800-meter relay, Eitzmann, Averi Blair, Schiltz and Woodwick joined forces to record a time of 12:11.94 to finish in fourth place.

In the medley relay, Grace Schavey, Ruby Allis, Lola Faulhaber and Abby Lorenz earned a third-place finish with a time of 5:41.5.

Boys results

Mankato East scored 118 points to earn first place in the boys’ track meet. JWP was second with 46.5, Hutchinson was third with 40.5 and BEA was fourth with 19.

The 4×400-meter relay team of Gage Barker, Jack Norman, Austin Stauffer and Jacob Grandgenett finished in second place with a time of 3:52.59.

Austin Skaden, Barker, Norman and Grandgenett crossed the finish line in 1:42.57 in the 4×200-meter relay to finish in third place.

The medley relay team of Kayden Walters, Caden Juba, Bryan Gonzalez and Marcus Eckles took fourth place with a time of 5:03.6.

Nick Nelson sprinted across the finish line of the 200-meter dash in 25.65 which was good for a third-place finish.

Norman and Nelson each placed in the shot put. Norman’s toss of 40-7 was good for second place while Nelson’s throw of 38-5 put him in fourth place.

Stauffer finished sixth in the high jump with a leap of 5-2.

In the long jump, Skaden had a mark of 16-8.75 to take sixth place.

Stauffer covered a distance of 35-4.5 in the triple jump to finish in fourth place.

The Bucs had another indoor meet on April 6, in Mankato on the campus of Minnesota State University.

They are scheduled to compete in the United South Central Invitational at Wells on April 11.

On April 14, the Bucs are scheduled to host an invitational track meet at Wilson Field. The competition is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m.

St. Peter Invite

The 2023 track and field season got underway for the Blue Earth Area Buccaneers on Friday, March 24. Although no team scores were tallied, the Bucs had some fine performances.

The St. Peter Indoor Meet was held on the campus of Minnesota State University – Mankato. In addition to BEA, Fairmont, St. Peter, St. James and New Ulm also competed.

Girls Results

Addison Armstrong took second place in the pole vault. She cleared the bar at 10-0 to move into second place on the BEA Indoor Honor Roll.

Armstrong’s time of 64.03 in the 400-meter dash was good for second place at the meet and moved her up to seventh place all-time for the indoor mark among BEA female athletes competing in that event.

Other top-four finishes included the BEA medley relay team of Kyannah Brandt, Elaena Schiltz, Natalie Schiltz and Aubrey Woodwick who finished third with a time of 2:45.68.

The 4×800-meter relay team of Sidney Eitzmann Averi Blair, Madie Redepenning and Makayla Grant finished second in 3:23.25.

Also nabbing a second-place finish was the 4×400-meter relay team of Armstrong, Eitzmann, Elaena Schiltz and Natalie Schiltz.

Woodwick cruised to a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 3:02.0.

Eitzmann scored a fourth-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 27-9.

The Bucs did very well in the shot put where they claimed two of the top three places.

Chloe Groe’s toss of 33-3 put her in first place while Taylor Ripley secured third place with a throw of 29-7.

Boys Results

BEA’s best performance of the meet was by their 4×200-meter relay team of Austin Skaden, Will Allis, Nick Nelson and Austin Stauffer. Their time of 1:47.77 was good for second place.

BEA’s medley relay team finished fourth with a time of 5:03.03. The team was comprised of Kayden Walters, Ben Thompson, Shane Levenhagen and Aidan Donohue.

Stauffer soared to a fourth-place finish in the high jump when he cleared the bar at 5-4.

Skaden took fourth in the long jump with a distance of 17-11 and Stauffer was fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 36-5 1/2.

In his first outing throwing the shot, Nelson brought home a fourth-place finish with a toss of 37-5.
