Bats come alive in two BEA victories

Baseball team scores 19 runs against Windom, 18 versus WEM

Caleb Langager drove in five runs on three hits to help lead the visiting Blue Earth Area Buccaneers baseball team to a 19-3 triumph over the Windom Eagles in baseball action Tuesday, April 18.

Both teams scored once in the first inning. BEA took the lead for good with two runs in the top of the third inning.

The Bucs made it 4-1 when they added another run in the top of the fourth inning. The Maroon and Gold pushed five runs across the plate in the top of the fifth inning while the Eagles scored twice in the bottom of the fifth to put BEA on top 9-3.

After a scoreless sixth inning, the Bucs scored 10 runs in the top of the seventh inning and then held the Eagles scoreless in the bottom of the inning to make the final score 19-3 with BEA on top.

The Bucs’ big seventh inning began when Levi Osborn and Carson Sturtz were each hit by pitches. Osborn scored and Sturtz moved to third when Soren Fering’s line drive was misplayed which allowed Fering to reach second.

A double by Langager drove in both runners. Parker Meyers then reached on an error which allowed Langager to advance to third base. A double by Nick Barke to left field brought home Langager and Meyers with the fourth and fifth runs of the inning.

Barke moved to third on a groundout. A single by Taylor Davids, doubles by Colton Hubly and Osborn and singles off the bats of Sturtz and Langager led to five more runs and put the game out of reach.

Taylor Davids picked up the win with five innings of work. He allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits. He walked three and struck out four batters.

Abe Kokos worked two scoreless innings in relief. He allowed two hits, two walks and struck out three batters.

BEA 18, WEM 4

After struggling to push runs across the plate during their first three games of the season, the Blue Earth Area Buccaneers traveled to Waterville on Saturday, April 15, and erupted for 18 runs against Waterville-Elysian-Morristown on their way to an 18-4 victory.

BEA scored six runs in the first inning, one in the second, two in the third and nine in the fourth before being held scoreless in the top of the fifth inning.

Soren Fering got things going for the Maroon and Gold when he led off the top the first inning with a single. Fering scored on a double to left field by Caleb Langager.

Parker Meyers walked to put runners on first and second base.

Langager and Meyers each stole a base to put runners on second and third base. A wild pitch allowed Langager to score and Meyers to advance to third.

A double by Nick Barke brought home Meyers with the third run of the inning.

Abe Kokos singled to advance Barke to third base and put runners on the corners.

Kokos stole second base. Following a strikeout, Colton Hubley walked to load the bases. Walks to Taylor Davids, Carson Sturtz and Fering brought home three more runs to give BEA a 6-0 lead heading into the bottom of the first inning.

WEM touched BEA starter Noah Dahl for two runs in the bottom of the first inning before holding the home team scoreless during the next three innings.

BEA used six hits, two walks, a hit batsman and an error by WEM to score nine runs in the top of the fourth inning. Davids and Fering each had triples during the inning while Dahl and Barke each doubled. BEA batted around and Davids collected his second hit of the inning when he singled pass the shortstop.

BEA totaled 12 hits during the game and four BEA players had multiple-hit games. They were Fering, Barke, Kokos and Davids.

Davids drove in four runs while Barke and Sturtz each drove in two.

Dahl picked up the win after pitching four innings and allowing two earned runs on two hits. He walked three batters and struck out three batters.

Barke came into the game to get the final three outs. He allowed two runs on two hits while walking three batters and recording one strike out.

LCWM 3, BEA 0

Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial and Blue Earth Area were locked in a scoreless battle through the first four innings of their baseball game at Veterans Field in Blue Earth on Friday, April 14.

The Knights of LCWM finally broke through for a run in the top of the fifth inning and added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning to go home with a 3-0 victory over the Bucs.

Parker Meyers started on the mound for BEA and took the loss after pitching five innings and allowing one run on two hits. Meyers walked three batters and recorded eight strike outs.

Caleb Langager pitched the sixth inning for the Bucs and gave up one run on one hit and two walks.

Noah Dahl pitched the seventh inning and surrendered one run on one hit. He walked one batter and struck out one.

The Bucs’ offense tallied six hits. Abe Kokos got a hit in each of his three plate appearances. Carson Sturtz had two hits and Caleb Langager had one. BEA was able to get runners to third base but could not get the hit when they needed to bring the runner home.

BEA committed four errors during the game.
