BEA pulls away to defeat St. James
Baseball team bounces back with victory after narrow losses to JCC

After dropping both ends of a doubleheader the previous day, the Blue Earth Area Buccaneers baseball team rebounded to defeat the St. James Saints 17-7 in a run-rule shortened game on Tuesday, April 25.
The Bucs, playing on their home turf at Veterans Field, fell behind in the top of the first inning when the Saints scored two runs.
However, BEA wasted no time in catching and overtaking St. James in the home half of the first inning.
Back-to-back doubles by Soren Fering and Parker Meyers gave the Bucs their first run of the game.
With Meyers at second base, Nick Barke was hit by a pitch and Abe Kokos walked to load the bases. Consecutive walks to Taylor Davids and Colton Hubly brought home two more runs and gave BEA a 3-2 lead.
With the bases still full, Nate Dahl laced a double down the left-field line to drive in Kokos and Davids with the Bucs’ fourth and fifth runs of the game and advance Hubly to third base.
Hubly scored on a wild pitch for BEA’s sixth run of the inning. Fering came up and hit a pop fly which the Saints misplayed allowing Dahl to score and Fering to reach second base.
A double off the bat of Caleb Langager drove in Fering with BEA’s final run of the inning to give the Bucs an 8-2 lead heading into the top of the second inning.
Bucs’ starting pitcher Parker Meyers shut down the Saints in the top of the second inning while the Bucs added two more runs to their total in the bottom of the second to go on top 10-2.
St. James rallied for five runs in the top of the third inning to cut BEA’s lead to 10-7.
The Bucs were held scoreless in the bottom of the third inning. Noah Dahl, who relieved Meyers with one out in the third inning, allowed the Saints to get two runners on base in the top of the fourth inning before escaping without allowing a run.
The Bucs had two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning before they combined two walks, an error, two doubles and three singles to add seven more runs to their total and take a 10-run lead at 17-7.
Dahl faced four batters in the top of the fifth and the game ended on a ground out to BEA second baseman Fering.
Meyers got credit for the win after pitching two and one third innings. He allowed seven runs, all earned, on six hits. He walked three batters and struck out two.
Dahl got the save after pitching two and two thirds innings. He gave up two hits, one walk and struck out four Saints’ batters. He did not allow any runs.
The Bucs put together a 14-hit attack led by Meyers who had three doubles. Fering, Davids and Hubly each had two hits.
Hubly had four runs batted in, Meyers had three while Dahl and Fering each had two.
JCC 5, BEA 3
A seventh-inning rally by the Jackson County Huskies broke a 2-2 tie and had the Blue Earth Area Buccaneers trailing 5-2 when they came to bat in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Bucs pushed one run across the plate and were threatening to score more. A double play by the Huskies ended the game and gave JCC a 5-3 triumph in the opening game of a doubleheader played in Blue Earth on Monday, April 24.
The Huskies outhit the Bucs 10-4 during the game but the Maroon and Gold were able to keep the game close.
Taylor Davids started for the Bucs and pitched six and one third innings. He was charged with three runs, only one which was earned. Davids allowed six hits, walked two batters and struck out seven.
Noah Dahl was charged with the loss after pitching two thirds of an inning. He gave up two earned runs on four hits. He did not walk any batters and struck out one.
Levi Osborn had a multiple-hit game with two singles.
JCC 7, BEA 6
Just like the first game of their doubleheader, the outcome of the contest between the visiting Jackson County Central Huskies and the Blue Earth Area Bucs was not decided until the final inning.
The Bucs were the visiting team for the scoreboard for the second game and came to bat in the top of the seventh inning trailing 5-3.
BEA rallied for three runs to take a 6-5 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.
Unfortunately for the Bucs, the Huskies were able to overtake the Maroon and Gold when they scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to go home with a 7-6 victory.
Abe Kokos pitched the first six innings for BEA and gave up five earned runs on seven hits while walking three batters and striking out seven. Parker Meyers was charged with the loss after allowing two runs in the final inning. He gave up one hit and walked two batters.
BEA had six hits in the game. Nick Barke and Caleb Langager each had two hits and each one had a double.
