Olivia Dutton is shown in her windup as she prepares to deliver a pitch during a recent game in Blue Earth.

The Blue Earth Area softball team lost both ends of a double header when they traveled to Windom on Tuesday, April 25, to take on the Eagles.

Windom won the first game 5-0 and completed the sweep with a 5-2 victory over BEA in the second game.

“We are playing better. We are right there,” Bucs’ coach Blake Boran said. “We are improving. We left a lot of runners on base. We just couldn’t get the hits when we needed them.”

Windom 5, BEA 0

The first game of the twin bill was a pitcher’s duel with neither team being able to score through the first five innings.

Buccaneer pitcher Olivia Dutton did not allow a hit until the sixth inning when the Eagles used six singles to push five runs across the plate to take a 5-0 lead.

Down to their last at-bat in the top of the seventh inning, the Bucs went down in order to give the Eagles the victory.

Dutton took the loss after pitching six complete innings and allowing five earned runs on six hits. She walked one batter and had seven strikeouts.

BEA had three hits in the game with Clara Ziegler connecting for a double while Kylee Eckmann and Dutton each had singles.

Windom 5, BEA 2

BEA was the home team on the scoreboard for the second game.

The Bucs went on top 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning when Claire Sullivan scored on a single by Erika Gaydon. Sullivan had reached base on a one-out single and then stole second and third base to put herself in scoring position.

BEA’s lead did not last long. Windom pushed one run across the top of the third inning to tie the game at 1-1.

Neither team scored in the fourth inning but the Eagles plated two runners in the top of the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.

The Bucs rallied for one run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ashlyn Klinkner singled and advanced to third base on a double by Ziegler. Klinkner scored on a wild pitch to cut the Eagles’ lead to 3-2 heading into the last inning.

Windom added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning and then held BEA scoreless in the bottom of the inning to preserve their 5-2 triumph.

Eckmann pitched all seven innings and allowed nine hits while walking one batter and striking out six. She gave up a total of five runs (three earned) and was charged with the loss.

The Bucs had seven hits in the game and were led by Erika Gaydon who had two hits. Kyla Roiger, Ziegler and Eckmann each had doubles for the Maroon and Gold.

Up next on BEA’s schedule was a double header at Redwood Valley on Friday, April 28.

The Bucs’ next home game is set for Monday, May 1, when they host the Jackson County Central Huskies.
