BEA goes 1-1 in tennis for the week

Lose to St. Peter 6-1 after shutting out the Luverne Cardinals 7-0

After a sweeping victory over the Luverne Cardinals the previous evening, the BEA boys tennis team was downed, 6-1, by the St. Peter Saints on Tuesday, May 2.

Joe Frundt suffered a 6-1, 6-4 defeat by St. Peter’s Marty Anderson at No. 1 singles. At No. 2 singles, Buc Brady Lorenz was also defeated in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, by Saint Will Elias.

BEA’s Jamie Johnson brought the Bucs a win at No. 3 singles, however. He booked a decisive victory over Colton Abels, 6-0, 6-1.

Devin Haase lost two narrow sets for the Bucs at No. 4 singles. St. Peter’s Ezekiel Ribar took the first set, 6-3, and the second set, 6-4.

Doubles play commenced with a close first set. BEA’s No. 1 doubles team of Ryder Dutton and Mitchell Stevermer narrowly lost their first set to Saints Anders Dixon and Tyson Schmitz, 7-6. St. Peter took the second set quickly, 6-0.

At No. 2 doubles, Bucs Seth Mathews and Gustavo Chavero were defeated, 6-0, 6-2, by Saints Ben Taylor and Quinn Dixon, and BEA’s Noah Hanson and Mateaus Sanchez suffered a 6-0, 6-3 loss to Luke Gilbertson and Eli Stoll at No. 3 doubles.

BEA 7, Luverne 0

The BEA boys tennis team improved its record to 3-1 following an easy match against the Luverne Cardinals on Monday, May 1.

Four straight singles wins by the Bucs preceded three forfeitures at doubles by the Cardinals, leaving BEA with another 7-0 win under their belts.

Joe Frundt faced Luverne’s Ethan Nath at No. 1 singles, where Frundt brought down his opponent in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. BEA’s Brady Lorenz settled the score similarly at No. 2 singles, downing Ross Bergman, 6-1, 6-0.

At No. 3 singles, Buc Jamie Johnson booked a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win against Cardinal Caleb Kracht. BEA’s Devin Haase showed similar skill at No. 4 singles, tallying another 6-0, 6-0 win over Kaleb Hemme.

Bucs Ryder Dutton and Mitchell Stevermer won by forfeiture at No. 1 doubles, as did Seth Mathews and Gustavo Chavero at No. 2 doubles, and Noah Hanson and Mateaus Sanchez at No. 3 doubles.

The Bucs were scheduled to play New Ulm on Friday, May 5, and are next slated to face St. James Area at home on Tuesday, May 9. They will travel to play Fairmont on Thursday, May 11.
