BEA third baseman Caleb Langager lets the Redwood Valley baserunner slide into his glove for an out during the Bucs’ doubleheader against the Cardinals.

The Windom Eagles and Blue Earth Area Buccaneers faced off on the baseball diamond for the second time this year on May 2.

When the two teams met the first time in Windom on April 18, it was the Bucs who triumphed 19-3.

The rematch, played at Veterans Field in Blue Earth, was dominated by the Eagles. Windom scored in four of the five innings they batted and went home with a 12-1 victory.

BEA scored in the bottom of the first inning to take their only lead of the contest.

Caleb Langager singled, stole second base and scored on a two-out single by Nick Barke.

Windom responded with two runs in the top of the second inning to take a 2-1 lead.

The Eagles added another run in the top of the third inning, two in the top of the fourth and seven in the top of the fifth inning to account for their 12 runs.

The Bucs made three costly errors during the game which led to seven unearned runs.

Abe Kokos took the loss for BEA. He pitched four innings and was charged with five runs, only three were earned. He gave up five hits, walked six batters and had no strike outs.

Soren Fering pitched the fifth inning. He gave up a total of seven runs but only two were earned. He surrendered two hits and walked three batters. He did not have any strike outs.

BEA could manage only four hits during the game. Fering, Langager, and Barke each had singles while Colton Hubly had a double.

Extra Innings

Carson Sturtz’s sacrifice fly to left field allowed Colton Hubly to tag up and sprint home with the winning run to give the Blue Earth Area Buccaneers a 3-2, ninth inning, walk-off win over the visiting Redwood Valley Cardinals in the opening game of a doubleheader on Friday, April 28.

The game went into extra innings after the teams were tied 2-2 after seven complete innings of regulation play.

Hubly opened the bottom of the ninth inning by getting down two strikes in the count before taking four consecutive balls to reach first base on a walk.

Following a strike out, Hubly stole second and third base to set up the game-winning sacrifice by Sturtz.

The Cardinals scored one run in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.

BEA took the lead when they plated two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Soren Fering hit a one-out line drive to left field for a single. Fering stole second and the Cardinals got the second out of the inning on a pop out.

Parker Meyers walked to put runners on first and second base before Nick Barke was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs.

A wild pitch by the Cardinals’ pitcher allowed Fering to score and Meyers and Barker to each advance a base. A single by Abe Kokos brought home Meyers with the Bucs’ second run.

Redwood Valley scored once in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game 2-2.

Taylor Davids pitched six and two thirds innings. He gave up two runs, one earned, on five hits. He walked three batters and struck out five.

Noah Dahl relieved Davids and got the final out in the seventh inning and then pitched scoreless eighth and ninth innings to get credit for the victory.

Dahl did not allow a hit while walking one batter and striking out two.

Six different players had singles for the Bucs. They were Fering, Caleb Langager, Meyers, Kokos, Davids and Sturtz.
