Buc boys take second place at St. Peter

Golfers placed fifth at 13-team Fairmont Cardinal Invitational

Blue Earth Area took runner-up honors at the third Big South Conference Division meet of the year on Monday, May 8, at Shoreland Country Club in St. Peter.

The host St. Peter Saints boys golf team took first place with a team score of 288. BEA’s second-place score of 326 was three strokes better than third-place Fairmont who finished with 329.

Coming in fourth was Waseca with 333, New Ulm was fifth with 345 and Jackson County Central placed sixth with 349.

The Saints’ Kaiden Brovold was the medalist with a one-under-par score of 68 on the 18-hole course.

Eli Blagg was the Bucs’ top golfer for the day with a score of 78 to finish in a tie for eighth place. Blagg had one birdie and eight pars.

One shot behind Blagg in 10th place was Ashton Lloyd who finished with a 79 which included two birdies and seven pars.

Kyren Sunken had a birdie and four pars to finish with an 84 and tie for 15th place.

Jackson Blondin had a birdie and five pars to finish in a three-way tie for 17th place with a score of 85 to complete BEA’s team scoring.

Also golfing for the Bucs were Max Loge and Manny Granillo. Loge carded an 89 while Granillo finished with a 90.

Fairmont Cardinals Invitational

Interlaken Golf Club was the site of the 2023 Fairmont Cardinals boys Invitational Golf Meet which was held on Saturday, May 6.

Winning the tournament with a team score of 312 was Minnewaska Area. Luverne was the runner-up squad with 316. Marshall took the third spot with 327, Fairmont was fourth with 336, St. Peter and Blue Earth Area tied for fifth with 339, Worthington was seventh with 350, Jackson County Central placed eighth with 360, Pipestone and North Union, Iowa, tied for ninth with 363, New Ulm placed 11th with 368, Redwood Valley was 12th with 373 and Windom Area finished 13th with an incomplete score.

Luverne’s Henry Hartquist was the medalist for the meet with an even-par round of 72 for the 18-hole course.

Leading the way for BEA was Ashton Lloyd who finished in eighth place with 42-38-80. Lloyd birdied the second, sixth and 18th holes and parred seven holes.

Jackson Blondin had the second lowest score for the Bucs with a 44-41-85 to finish in a four-way tie for 17th place. Blondin birdied the 14th hole in addition to having five pars.

Maxton Loge and Kyren Sunken were in a group of five golfers who tied for 29th place with scores of 87.

Loge had a 45 on the front nine and finished with a 42 on the back nine. He recorded 10 pars.

Sunken’s round of 87 included a 46 on the front nine and a 41 on the back nine. He had seven pars during his round.

Eli Blagg, with a 47-46-93, and Hunter Viland, with a 46-49-95, were the other two BEA golfers for the day.
