Noah Dahl winds up before delivering the ball to home plate when BEA faced Redwood Valley on April 28.

The 6-2 Luverne Cardinals came to Veterans Field on May 5, for a baseball doubleheader against the host Blue Earth Area Buccaneers, who began the day with a record of 4-7.

Luverne 11, BEA 0

Taylor Davids got the only hit for BEA in an 11-0 shut out loss to Luverne in the first game of the doubleheader.

The Cardinals’ Conner Connell pitched all five innings in picking up the victory. In addition to allowing the hit by Davids, the only other baserunners the Bucs had were Soren Fering, who was hit by a pitch, and Parker Meyers, who reached base on a walk.

The Luverne batters collected 11 hits against BEA pitching.

Meyers started the game and took the loss after pitching four innings and allowing six total runs, four earned, on seven hits. He walked three batters and struck out six.

Fering came in and pitched the final inning. He gave up five runs, all earned. Fering allowed four hits, walked three batters and struck out one.

Luverne 10, BEA 2

The closing game of the twin bill was close through the first five innings with Luverne holding a 5-2 lead.

But, the Cardinals, who were the home team on the scoreboard for the second game, scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and then held the Bucs scoreless in the top of the seventh inning to go home with a 10-2 victory and a sweep of the doubleheader.

After having only one hit in the first game, the Bucs could only manage three hits in the second game.

BEA scored one run in the top of the second inning.

Abe Kokos, Taylor Davids and Levi Osborn all walked to fill the bases.

With one out, Carson Sturtz hit a line drive but unfortunately for the Bucs, it was hit right to the Luverne shortstop so the bases remained loaded with two outs.

A walk to Soren Fering brought Kokos home with the Bucs’ first run of the game.

Luverne, who had scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, increased their lead to 3-1 when they added another run in the bottom of the third inning.

Neither team scored in the fourth inning but BEA pushed one runner across the plate in the top of the fifth inning to cut Luverne’s lead to 3-2.

The Bucs’ run was scored by Nick Barke who opened the fifth inning with a lead-off double.

Kokos hit behind the runner to the second baseman for a ground out which allowed Kokos to advance to third base. Barke then scored on a ground out to the second baseman by Davids.

The Cardinals scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend their lead to 5-2.

Taylor Davids started on the mound and took the loss. However, the final statistics for the game were not available.

BEA’s game at St. James, which was originally scheduled to be played on May 9, has been rescheduled and will be played on May 15 at St. James.
