Bucs drop three games in softball

St. James batters pounded out 14 hits and the Saints’ pitching staff held the Blue Earth Area Buccaneers to just two hits in a 9-0 triumph in softball for host team St. James.

The Saints scored in all six innings they batted while only Reagan Machacek and Kyla Roiger were able to get singles for the Bucs.

Olivia Dutton started on the mound for BEA and went the distance to take the loss. All nine runs were earned and she struck out two batters and walked two.

The Bucs returned to action on Saturday, May 20, when they hosted the United South Central Rebels at the 14th Street Diamonds in Blue Earth. The results of that game will be in next week’s edition of the Faribault County Register.

Luverne 18, BEA 0

The powerful Luverne Cardinals softball team came to Blue Earth for a doubleheader against the Bucs on Thursday, May 11, and won the opening game of the twin bill 18-0.

Kyla Roiger got the only hit for BEA while Luverne had 21 hits including a home run and eight doubles.

The Cardinals scored five runs in each of the first two innings and added eight more in the top of the third inning,

The game came to an end after four innings since Luverne led by more than 15 runs.

Olivia Dutton took the loss for the Bucs.

Luverne 21, BEA 5

The Bucs finally scored some runs but were still outscored by the Cardinals 21-5 in the second game of the doubleheader. Luverne improved their record to 11-6.

After falling behind 16-0 after two innings, the Bucs got on the board when they scored five runs in the third inning.

Erika Gaydon led off the third inning for BEA with a single and moved to second base when Taylor Klabunde walked.

Gaydon scored and Klabunde went to third on a double by Olivia Dutton.

A single by Reagan Machacek scored Klabunde and allowed Dutton to advance to third base.

Lily Olson doubled to score Dutton and put runners on second and third base.

A single by Clara Ziegler brought Machacek home with the Bucs’ fourth run and an error on the same play allowed Olson to score and make the score 16-5 in favor of the Cardinals.

Luverne added five more runs to their total to go up 21-5 and end the game after four innings.

Kylee Eckmann was charged with the loss.

BEA had nine hits including three by Machacek and two each by Gaydon and Ziegler.
