Rebels win back-to-back one run games
Softball team rallies to defeat NRHEG and Blooming Prairie
The United South Central softball team followed up a close game on Monday with another close one the next day, Tuesday, May 16.
The Rebels won a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Panthers in a game played in New Richland.
The Panthers scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning. But, the Rebels came back and tied it up at 1-1 right away in the top of the fourth.
Then they scored one more run in the top of the sixth inning to take the lead at 2-1. With neither team scoring in the seventh, USC claimed another close win.
USC outhit the Panthers 4-2. Kendal Harpestad, Molly Wegner, Brylee Neubauer and Olivia Bungum all had hits, with Wegner’s hit being a triple.
Mariah Anderson once again went all seven innings, giving up the one run on the two hits, walking just one batter and striking out 13.
The Rebels were scheduled to play at Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton on Thursday, May 18. Results of that game will be in the next edition of the Faribault County Register.
USC 1, Hayfield 0
Another squeaker.
The United South Central softball team had another exciting game, this time against the Hayfield Vikings on Monday, May 15.
The game was scoreless through six and a half innings, until the Rebels scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning and won the game 1-0.
USC out slugged Hayfield nine to one. However, the Rebels left nine runners on base during the game.
Mariah Anderson led the hitting barrage going 3 for 4 at the plate including a double, and driving in the winning run, with Riley Getchell crossing home plate.
Molly Wegner was 2 for 3, while Taylor Schroeder, Brylee Neubauer, Lillyan Lutteke and Ivy O’Rourke all had one hit.
Anderson pitched the seven inning shutout, giving up just the one hit. She walked two batters and struck out 14 Vikings.
The Rebels were next scheduled to play at Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton on Thursday, May 18.

Blooming Prairie 2
The softball game between United South Central and Blooming Prairie, on Thursday, May 11, was tied twice. But then the Rebels broke the tie in the seventh inning and gained a 3-2 win.
USC scored first with one run in the top of the third inning. But, Blooming Prairie came back with a run of their own in the bottom of the third to tie it up 1-1.
The Rebels went ahead 2-1 with a run in the top of the fourth, but in the bottom of the fifth the Blossoms tied it again, 2-2.
In the top of the seventh USC scored one more run, taking a 3-2 lead and then holding Blooming Prairie scoreless in the bottom of the seventh.
The Rebels outhit the Blossoms 6-3. Mariah Anderson and Olivia Bungum each had two hits, with Anderson getting a double. Taylor Schroeder and Alivia Bruegger each had one hit.
Anderson pitched all seven innings, giving up the two runs on three hits. She issued one walk and struck out 13 batters.
