Buccaneer golfers defeat the Huskies
Both teams prepare for Section play next week in New Prague
The Blue Earth Area girls did not have their best golf outing of the year, but they played well enough to defeat the Jackson County Central Huskies by 39 strokes when the two teams met at the Jackson Golf Club on Thursday, May 18.
The Bucs’ winning total was 200 while the Huskies tallied 239.
BEA’s Payten Gudahl was the medalist for the day with a seven-over-par score of 44. Gudahl parred the par-3 No. 7 hole and birdied the par-5 No. 8 hole.
Gudahl’s teammates Madison Ehrich, Rylan Storbeck and Katelyn Storbeck each shot a 52 to end up in a three-way tie for second place.
Ehrich had one birdie, while Katelyn Storbeck had two pars.
Hailey Becker finished with a 59 which put her in eighth place while McKinley Hanson carded a 64 to finish in ninth place.
The girls now move on to Section play, which is a two-day event. The first round will be on Tuesday, May 30, at the New Prague Golf Club. If they qualify for the second day of play, they will return for the final round at the New Prague Golf Club on Tuesday, June 6.
The Minnesota State Girls Golf Tournament will be held on June 13-14 at Ridges on Sand Creek located in Jordan.
Boys Results
The Blue Earth Area boys defeated Jackson County Central in gold by 13 strokes, 174-187, on May 18, at Jackson Golf Club.
The Bucs’ Ashton Lloyd earned medalist honors with a two-over-par score of 39.
Lloyd carded seven pars to edge out his teammate Eli Blagg, who finished in the runner-up spot with a 42. Blagg recorded four pars during his round.
Coming in fifth was Cale Borris with a 46. Borris had pars on three holes.
Jackson Blondin and Kyren Sunken each shot 47 to tie for sixth place. Blondin had two pars while Sunken had two birdies.
Gordy Bruellman was the other Buccaneer golfer and he recorded a 53 to finish in a three-way tie for 10th place. Bruellman completed his day with one par.
The BEA boys begin Section play on Wednesday, May 31, at the New Prague Golf Club. Any golfers qualifying for the second round will play again at New Prague on Tuesday, June 6.
