Bucs win playoff opener over Eagles
Osborn’s single brings home Davids with the game-winning run

Levi Osborn’s clutch single in the bottom of the seventh inning drove in Taylor Davids with the winning run to give the Blue Earth Area Buccaneers an 8-7 win over the New Ulm Eagles in the opening round of the Section 2AA playoffs at Veterans Field in Blue Earth last Thursday, May 25.
The No. 8-seeded Bucs advance to the second round of the playoffs where they will face the No. 1-seeded New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Panthers in New Richland on Tuesday, May 30.
The Bucs were cruising along with a 7-3 lead entering the top of the seventh inning when starting Bucs’ pitcher Taylor Davids ran into some trouble.
The Eagles’ first batter walked, their second batter was hit by a pitch and their third batter hit a double to drive in one run.
New Ulm got another single before making their first out on a pop out. Another single, a Bucs’ error and another walk led to the game being tied 7-7.
Parker Meyers relieved Davids and the next New Ulm batter hit a soft liner back to Meyers who then threw to third baseman Caleb Langager to double the runner off of third and bring the Bucs up to bat in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Davids led off the inning with a double and went to third on a textbook sacrifice bunt by Colton Hubly.
Osborn worked the count to three balls and two strikes before hitting a single between the shortstop and third baseman to drive home Davids with the wining run.
Davids pitched six and one third innings and was charged with seven runs, four earned. He gave up nine hits, walked two batters and struck out four.
Meyer picked up the win after pitching to one batter and getting the double play.
BEA 9, Worthington 8
The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers baseball team ended their regular season with a 9-8 walk-off win against the Worthington Trojans on Tuesday, May 23, at Veterans Field in Blue Earth.Worthington held an 8-7 lead when BEA came up to bat in the bottom of the seventh inning. Caleb Langager hit a one-out single and then stole second base. Parker Meyers was hit by a pitch to put two runners on base.
A single to right field by Nick Barke scored Langager to tie the game at 8-8. Meyers, who represented the winning run, went to third on the throw home.
Carter Rosenau, who entered the game to run for Barke, stole second base. Abe Kokos hit a grounder to the third baseman who made an error on the play that allowed Meyers to score the winning run.
The game was tied 1-1 after the first inning. BEA pulled ahead 5-2 after the second inning but the Trojans scored twice in the third inning and once in the fourth to tie the contest at 5-5. The teams were tied at 6-6 after five innings and 7-7 after six innings.
Worthington scored one run in the top of the seventh inning to set the plate for BEA’s come-from-behind victory.
With the opening round of the baseball playoffs beginning on Thursday, May 25, both teams used a number of pitchers during the game.
The Bucs used seven pitchers with each one throwing only one inning. Noah Dahl, who worked the seventh inning for the Bucs, picked up the win. He allowed two hits and one earned run.
BEA had 11 hits during the game, including a triple by Soren Fering and a solo home run by Colton Hubly.
Fering was 3-for-5, Langager was 2-for-3, Barke was 2-for-4 and Kokos was 2-for-5.
The Bucs had eight stolen bases. Fering had two while Levi Osborn, Parker Meyers, Branson Hauskins, Mathew Klabunde, Langager and Rosenau each had one.
The win improved the Bucs’ record to 8-11.
BEA 18, MCW 2
Blue Earth Area coasted to an easy 18-2 non-conference win in baseball over the Martin County West Mavericks on May 18, in a game played in Truman.
MCW retired the first two Buccaneer batters in the top of the first inning but the next two hitters, Parker Meyers and Nick Barke, each were hit by a pitch.
A double by Abe Kokos to left field scored both runners and staked the Bucs to an early 2-0 lead.
The Mavericks scored once in the bottom of the first inning but the Bucs exploded for seven runs in each of the next two innings while holding the home team to one more run. After three innings of play, BEA led 16-2.
The Bucs added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to complete their 18-2 triumph and end the game after five innings.
Taylor Davids got credit for the victory after pitching all five innings and allowing two earned runs on two hits while walking four batters and striking out nine.
BEA batters had a total of 10 hits, including six extra-base hits. Soren Fering had a triple while Meyers and Kokos each had two doubles to go along with Barke’s double.
