BEA girls qualify for Day Two at tourney

Gudahl ends first day tied for third place, Katelyn Storbeck is 10th

The Blue Earth Area girls had a strong showing at the Section 2AA Golf Tournament held on Tuesday, May 30, at the New Prague Golf Club.

They finished the first round in third place behind Jordan and Southwest Christian and ahead of the fourth-place St. Peter Saints. All four of those schools qualified to compete in the final round of the tournament which will held on June 6, at the same course.

The competition was tough with 13 teams vying to be one of the four schools to qualify for the second day of the tournament.

Jordan finished the day with a team-score of 350, just five strokes ahead of Southwest Christian who shot a 355. BEA sits 24 strokes behind the leader with a score of 374. St. Peter’s fourth-place score was 386.

Leading the way for the Bucs was Payten Gudahl who carded a 39-43-82 to finish in a tie for third place. Victoria Woytassek of Jordan was the leader at the end of the day with a round of 74.

Gudahl finished with a birdie on the par-3 seventh hole and a team-best seven pars.

Katelyn Storbeck’s round of 48-42-90 gave her sole possession of 10th place. Storbeck birdied the par-4 16th hole in addition to having five pars.

Rylan Storbeck finished in a three-way tie for 19th place with a 50-48-98. She had pars on three holes.

Finishing in a tie for 23rd place was Madison Ehrich with a 54-50-104.

Rounding out the squad for the Bucs were Lola Lundquist and McKinley Hanson.

Lundquist tallied a 51-57-108 while Hanson finished with a 55-59-114.

The final round will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
