USC softball team’s season ends
Squad loses back-to-back 1-0 games to end their playoff run

Mariah had a great year pitching for the Rebels.
The United South Central softball season came to a heartbreaking end when the Rebels lost to the Hayfield Vikings, 1-0, on Thursday, May 25, in the Elimination Bracket of the Section 1A Softball Tournament.
USC had started the tournament with a 16-1 victory over Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton on May 22. Then they suffered a tough 1-0 loss to Kenyon-Wanamingo on May 23.
That dropped the Rebels into the Elimination Bracket where they again lost a 1-0 game, this time to Hayfield.
The Vikings scored the only run of the game in the top of the fourth inning. Hayfield had a total of five hits in the game, while USC had just two.
Molly Wegner and Alivia Bruegger accounted for the two hits for the Rebels.
Mariah Anderson pitched all seven innings, giving up the one run on five hits, did not issue a walk and struck out 13 batters.
Elaina Masching of Hayfield allowed the two hits in the shutout, walked two Rebels and struck out eight.
