Two USC golfers advance to State in golf
Heggen finishes third, Neubauer seventh at Section Golf Tourney
Two United South Central golfers – one from the girls team and one from the boys team – are advancing to the 2023 Class A State Golf Tournament to be held at Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker, on June 13-14.
After the first day of the Section 2A Tournament, two USC girl golfers advanced to Day 2 of the tourney, as reported in last week’s Faribault County Register.
Sophomore Emma Heggen had shot a 105 on Day 1 and then followed it up with a lower score of 100 on Day 2, for a total 205.
That put Heggen in third place overall and qualified her for the State Tournament. It will be her first appearance at State.
Senior Paige Roberts shot a 122 on Day 1 to advance to Day 2 where she carded another 122 for a total of 244 and 18th place overall.
The USC boys team came in with a 350 on Day 1 of the Section Tournament, good for fourth place and advancement to Day 2. They played better on Day 2 and ended up in third place overall.
One of the team members, junior Kadyn Neubauer, finished in seventh place at Section and earned a trip to the State Tournament. This will be his third appearance at State, going in 2021 as an individual, 2022 with the full team and now in 2023 as an individual again.
Neubauer shot a total score of 158 to lead the Rebels. Blake Bullerman came in at ninth place with a 169, Carter Hart was 24th with a 185, Brennan Anderson shot a 186 for the team tally and was in 25th place.
Brennan Olson came in at 31st with a 194 and Jorge Martinez was 33rd at 195.
Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, which led after Day 1 of the Section, ended up with a team total of 658 after Day 2 and advances as a team to the State.
New Ulm Cathedral was second with a score of 693 and USC was just two strokes back at 695 for third. Minnesota Valley Lutheran was fourth with a 719.
Hunter Schmidt of Martin County West was the medalist with a score of 146.
