The Blue Earth/Winnebago American Legion baseball team improved their record to 2-0 when they defeated Truman 11-1 in five innings on Munday, June 12.

Taylor Davids pitched all five innings for BE/W to earn the victory. He allowed one unearned run on three hits while walking one batter and striking out four.

BE/W took an early lead when they scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning.

With one out, Parker Meyers was hit by a pitch. With Logan O’Hara batting, Meyers stole second base and advanced to third on an error by the Truman catcher.

O’Hara was then hit by a pitch to put runners on first and third base. An error on Nick Barke’s grounder resulted in Meyers scoring the first run of the game while O’Hara moved to second base and Barke was safe at first.

A walk to Abe Kokos loaded the bases. Peyton O’Hara walked to bring home Logan O’Hara with the second run of the game.

Truman recorded a strike out for the second out of the inning but an error by the pitcher on a grounder hit by Carson Sturtz allowed two more runs to score and give BE/W a 4-0 lead.

The hometown team added seven more runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Peyton O’Hara stroked a one-out single to left field to get things started. Carter Rosenau came in as a courtesy runner for O’Hara and scored when Truman made an error on a ground ball by Taylor Davids. A single by Sturtz and a walk to Noah Dahl loaded the bases. Soren Fering walked to bring home Davids. Meyers was hit by a pitch to score Sturtz with the third run of the inning.

Logan O’Hara’s triple brought home three more runs and a single by Barke drove in O’Hara with the seventh run of the inning.

Truman scored their only run in the top of the fifth inning but it was not enough to prolong the game and the contest was over in five innings.

BE/W 10, Maple River 5

The Blue Earth/Winnebago American Legion team opened their 2023 season with a home game victory against Minnesota Lake at Veterans Field in Blue Earth on Thursday, June 8. The final score was 10-5.

BE/W took advantage of some Minnesota Lake blunders to score three runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Soren Fering walked and Caleb Langager singled to put runners on first and second bases. Two wild pitches brought home Fering and allowed Langager to advance to third base.

A single by Parker Meyers scored Langager with BE/W’s second run of the game.

Meyers stole both second and third base and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Nick Barke.

BE/W added four more runs in the bottom of the second inning.

Sturtz walked and Fering singled to put runners on first and second base.

A double by Langager drove in Sturtz. Fering scored and Langager moved to third base on a ground out by Logan O’Hara.

Barke doubled to plate Langager and give BE/W a 6-0 lead. Walks to Abe Kokos, Taylor Davids and Colton Hubly brought home Barke and increased BE/W’s advantage to 7-0.

The hometown team added another run in the bottom of the third inning before Minnesota Lake plated two runs in the top of the fifth inning to make the score 8-2 in BE/W’s favor.

BE/W added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings while Maple River scored three more runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Noah Dahl started on the mound for BE/W and worked five and two thirds innings. He surrendered a total of five runs, two earned, while giving up four hits, walking four batters and striking out four.

Parker Meyers came into the game to record the final out in the sixth inning and then worked a scoreless seventh inning. Meyers did not allow a run or a hit and struck out three batters.

BE/W is scheduled to take on Wells in Wells on Monday, June 19. They are home against St. James on Thursday, June 22, and travel to Minnesota Lake on June 26, and to Truman on June 29. All games are scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
