Ashton Lloyd wrapped up his high school golf career at Blue Earth Area in a three-way tie for 18th place at the Class AA Minnesota State High School Boys Golf Tournament held June 13-14, at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan.

After shooting a one-over-par 36-37-73 during the first day of the two-day tournament, Lloyd carded a 41-39-80 in the final round to finish with a two-day total of 153.

Carter White of Staples-Motley won the tournament with back-to-back rounds of 72 for a two day even-par total of 144.

Lloyd started the second day of the tournament by getting a birdie on the par-5 10th hole. It was one of his three birdies of the day. He also had birdies on the par-5 16th hole and the par-5 18th hole. He also had eight pars during his second round of play.

His one-over-par first round included four birdies which were on the par-4 sixth hole, the par-4 ninth hole, the par-5 10th hole and the par-3 17th hole. Lloyd had 11 birdies during his opening round of play.

Lloyd finished in 52nd place in the 2022 State Tournament and in a tie for sixth place in the 2021 State Tourney.

Lloyd’s thoughts will now switch to football while preparing for his freshman year at Minnesota State – Mankato.

Girls Tournament

Payten Gudahl completed her second trip as a competitor at the Class AA Minnesota State Girls Golf Tournament by finishing in a three-way tie for 46th place.

Gudahl shot a 49-48-97 during the final round to go with a 46-38-84 in her first round for a two-day total of 181.

Last year Gudahl finished in a four-way tie for 62nd place.

Gudahl birdied the par-4 eighth hole and had four pars during the second day of play.

She birdied two holes, the par-4 fifth hole and the par-4 12th hole, during her opening round to go along with six pars.

Grace Petzold of Providence Academy was the medalist in the tournament with a two-day total of 145.

Gudahl, a junior, will have another chance to qualify for the State Tournament during her senior year at Blue Earth Area in 2024.
