Taylor Davids allowed only one run in Blue Earth/Winnebago’s 11-1 triumph over St. James in American Legion baseball action on Monday, June 26.

The Blue Earth/Winnebago Legion baseball team downed Minnesota Lake for the second time this season with an 11-1 triumph in six innings on Monday, June 26, at Minnesota Lake.

Taylor Davids went the distance on the mound to pick up the win. He allowed one unearned run on six hits. He walked two batters and struck out nine.

The BE/W offense gave Davids a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

After Soren Fering, Caleb Langager and Parker Meyers had walked to load the bases, Logan O’Hara hit into a fielder’s choice to score Fering. Langager was out at third, but Meyers ended up on third following an error by Minnesota Lake.

Nick Barke was hit by a pitch to fill the bases and a walk to Abe Kokos brought home Meyers with the second run of the game.

One out later, a triple by Colton Hubly drove in O’Hara, Kokos and Barke to give BE/W a 5-0 lead.

BE/W added two more runs in the fourth inning and four runs in the sixth inning. Minnesota Lake’s lone run came in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Fering had three of his team’s nine hits and drove in two runs. Hubly and O’Hara each drove in three runs.

The victory improved BE/W’s record to 6-0.

BE/W 13, St. James 9

Blue Earth/Winnebago trailed St. James 6-5 heading into the bottom half of the sixth inning when the two teams met in American Legion baseball action on Thursday, June 22.

But, a six-run sixth inning by the host BE/W team was enough to overtake St. James and secure the eventual 13-9 victory.

BE/W starting pitcher Noah Dahl surrendered two runs in each of the first two innings to give St. James a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the second inning.

BE/W scored four runs in the bottom of the second stanza to tie the game at 4-4.

Colton Hubly walked with one out and scampered to second base on a passed ball. A fly ball to left field gave BE/W two outs.

Carson Sturtz walked and courtesy runner Carter Rosenau came into the game to run for him.

Soren Fering reached on an error by the third baseman to load the bases.

A line drive double to left field by Caleb Langager drove in Hubly and Rosenau with BE/W’s first two runs of the game.

After Parker Meyers walked to reload the bases, Logan O’Hara stroked a line drive to bring home Fering and Langager and tie the game at 4-4.

BE/W scored one run in the bottom of the third inning to take a 5-4 lead. Their advantage was short-lived, however. St. James went back on top 6-5 when they tallied two runs in the top of the fourth inning.

Things fell apart for St. James in the bottom of the fifth inning. After striking out the lead-off batter, the next four BE/W batters walked and the game was tied 6-6. With the bases still full, the next BE/W batter, Meyers, was hit by a pitch and the host team took a 7-6 lead. Another walk and two St. James errors resulted in four more runs and an 11-6 BE/W lead.

Each team scored twice in the sixth inning and St. James added one more run in the top of the seventh to make the final score 13-9 in favor of BE/W.

Fering worked the final three innings on the mound to pick up the win. He gave up three runs, one earned, on five hits while walking two batters and striking out three.

Dahl worked the first four innings and gave up six runs, three earned. He allowed five hits, walked three St. James batters and struck out two.

Langager led the team in batting with three hits and five runs batted in. O’Hara drove in three runs.
