The Blue Earth Diamonds softball team fell to the Cardinal Power 7-1 in a seven-inning game played on Thursday, June 22, in Blue Earth.

Cardinal Power held a 1-0 lead heading into the top of the fifth inning but scored six runs to increase their margin to 7-0.

The Diamonds scored their lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Clara Ziegler walked and took second on a sacrifice bunt by Berkley Hagedorn. Ziegler scored when Claire Sullivan hit a double to right field.

Blue Earth had eight hits in the game with Hagedorn, Sullivan and Olivia Dutton each collecting two hits. Erika Gaydon and Makenzie Benschoter had the Diamonds’ other two hits.

Kylee Eckmann started on the mound for the Diamonds and pitched five complete innings. She gave up seven runs, four earned, on eight hits while walking six batters and striking out 13.

Dutton relieved Eckmann in the top of the sixth inning and pitched the final two innings. She did not allow a run while giving up two hits, walking one batter and recording one strike out.

Cardinal Power was led on offense by Mandy Pytleski who went 3-for-3 at the plate.
