Pirates down Expos 14-4, improve to 7-5
The Blue Earth Pirates played host to the Eagle Lake Expos on Sunday, July 9, at Veterans Field in Blue Earth.
When all was said and done, the Pirates had earned a 14-4 victory to improve their record to 7-5 in the 13/60 Baseball League/National Division.
No individual statistics were available for the game.
Waseca sits in the top spot in the National Division with a record of 11-1 followed by Blue Earth with their 7-5 record.
Eagle Lake finds themselves in third place with a 6-5 record and Minnesota Lake Royals are fifth with a 6-7 record. Lake Crystal is in last place with only one win against 11 losses.
In the American Division, the Waterville Indians are in first place with nine wins and two losses. The North Mankato Gators are in second place with an 8-4 record. The Wells Wildcats are in third place with a 4-7 record just ahead of the fifth-place Morristown Morries who have a 4-8 record. The final spot in the standings is occupied by the Cleveland Spiders who have three wins and eight losses.
The regular season is winding down and the teams are preparing for the playoffs.
Blue Earth’s last two regular season games were at Windom on Friday, July 14, and on Saturday, July 15, when they host Morristown.
Minnesota Lake’s last game was a 4-3 loss to the Lake Crystal Lakers and there were no more games listed on their regular season schedule.
Wells was scheduled to travel to Eagle Lake on Sunday, July 16, to take on the Expos in what was their final regular season contest this year.
Playoffs in the American Division are scheduled to begin July 19 with the Cleveland Spiders taking on a yet-to-be determined opponent.
The playoff schedule for the National Division has not been released yet.
According to the latest statistics on their website, the Pirates are led in hitting by Hunter Bleess who has a .426 average. He has seven doubles, a triple and a home run. He also leads the team with a .648 slugging percentage and is in second-place on the team with 17 RBI.
Cody Sukalski has the second-highest average on the team at .345. Sukalski has four doubles this season and an on-base percentage of .424.
Brandyn Olsen has a batting average of .320 and has driven in 25 runs to lead the team in that statistic. Olsen has hit three doubles and leads the Pirates with three home runs.
Kaylan Legred is fourth on the team in hitting with a .314 average and Ryan Madetzke is fifth with a .296 average.
