The Blue Earth Pirates lost 11-0 to the Jordan Brewers in a game to determine which team would be seeded No. 1 and who would be the No. 2-seed coming out of Region 6C.

The game, played at ISG Field in Mankato on Saturday night, Aug. 12, saw Jordan draw first blood when they scored one run in the bottom of the third inning.

It was the fourth and the fifth innings where Jordan did their major damage by scoring five runs in each inning.

The Brewers pounded out 14 hits in their victory while holding the Pirates to only two hits.

Jordan pitcher Thomas Thompson struck out seven of the first nine Pirate batters that he faced and had a no-hitter heading into the top of the fourth inning.

Cody Sukalski broke up the no-hitter with a double to lead off the top of the fourth inning and Brandyn Olsen reached on an error after Jordan had recorded one out. Unfortunately for the Pirates, they could not get a timely hit to bring home a run. It was the only time Blue Earth would get a runner as far as second base.

The highlight of the night for the Pirates came in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Brewers had already scored five runs and were threatening to score more with runners on first and second base with no outs.

Jordan’s next batter hit a sharp ground ball to Blue Earth third baseman Kane Malo who fielded the ball cleanly and stepped on third base before firing the ball to Parker Meyers for the second out. Meyers then relayed the ball to first baseman Blake Boran to complete a triple play and end the inning.

Lee Hodges took the loss for the Pirates. The veteran right-hander pitched four innings and gave up nine hits and six earned runs. He walked two batters and struck out two.

Ryan Vereide pitched the final two innings and was charged with five runs on five hits. He walked one batter and struck out one.

Kaylan Legred had the only other hit for Blue Earth, a bunt single.

The Pirates began State Tournament play on Sunday, Aug. 20, with an 11 a.m. game against Stark. The game will be played at Delano Municipal Ballpark located at 559 North River Street in Delano.

Jordan, the third-ranked team in the state in Class C, gets a first-round bye and will play the winner of the game between Jackson and Green Isle.

Waterville, the No. 3-seed out of Region 6C, was set to face New Ulm on Sunday, Aug. 20, at 1:30 p.m., following the Pirates game.
