Bucs upended by Saints in tennis
Team loses narrow match to Maple River after defeating Waseca
Addison Armstrong is one of the senior leaders on the 2023 BEA tennis team.
It was the Saints who marched in a 5-2 win against the BEA girls tennis team on Tuesday, Sept. 19.
Addison Armstrong fought two close sets against St. Peter’s Annika Southworth at No. 1 singles, but Armstrong scraped a 7-6 (7), 6-4 win over her opponent.
The No. 2 singles match went to St. Peter, however. Buc Lauren Survis was defeated 6-0, 6-1 by Saint Rhyan Holmgren. No. 3 singles brought another St. Peter win following Madison Kamm’s 6-0, 6-0 defeat of McKinley Hanson.
Buc Abbey Lorenz faced Brielle Romasiewicz at No. 4 singles, where she was defeated 6-3, 6-0.
Although they usually appear at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles slots, Bucs Olivia Dutton and Grace Hanson teamed up at No. 1 doubles on Tuesday. They defeated Zetta Haugen and Kylie Southworth in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
At No. 2 doubles, it was Ashlyn Klinkner and Carol Schrader up against Saints Kali Erickson and Nora Whipps. The match went to St. Peter, 6-2, 6-1.
Ella Dirks and Natalie Salfer booked a final win for the Saints at No. 3 doubles with their 7-6 (2), 6-1 defeat of Addison and Erin Prescher.
The Bucs were scheduled to play New Ulm on Thursday, Sept. 21. Their next match against United South Central is scheduled on Monday, Sept. 25, followed by a match against Fairmont on Tuesday, Sept. 26.

Maple River 4, BEA 3
The Maple River Eagles snatched a 4-3 win from the Bucs on Monday, Sept. 18.
Addison Armstrong started BEA off with a win at No. 1 singles, defeating Ally Mersman 6-1, 6-2. Eagle Macy Sohre won her No. 2 singles match against Buc Olivia Dutton, 6-2, 6-2.
Tabitha Barkosky also booked a win for Maple River at No. 3 singles. Barkosky lost the first set, 6-3, to Grace Hanson, but she won the second and third sets, 6-4 and 7-5.
Lauren Survis was the victor at No. 4 singles with her 6-4, 6-2 defeat of Eagle Norah Davis.
In No. 1 doubles action, Maple River’s Brooke Reuter and Madison Ward defeated BEA’s Carol Schrader and Ashlyn Klinkner in three sets. The Eagles won the first set, 6-4, but the Bucs took the second set, 6-1. The third set went to Maple River, 7-5.
Eagles Ellie Braaten and Kelsey Jaeger also won their match against Abbey Lorenz and McKinley Hanson at No. 2 doubles, 6-2, 6-2.
It was Bucs Addison and Erin Prescher who booked a win at No. 3 doubles with their 7-5, 6-4 defeat of Claire Langworthy and Kate Davis.
BEA 5, Waseca 2
The Bucs flew by Waseca on Thursday, Sept. 14 to land a 5-2 win over the Bluejays.
BEA saw a series of victories at the first three singles slots. Addison Armstrong defeated Waseca’s Sarah Haley at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1, while Buc Olivia Dutton beat Takya Schoenrock, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 2 singles. Grace Hanson also tallied a win for BEA at No. 3 singles, defeating Maddy Benson 6-4, 6-3.
Waseca booked its sole singles win at the No. 4 slot when Addie Pfeifer defeated Abbey Lorenz, 6-0, 6-2.
It was BEA’s Carol Schrader and Ashlyn Klinkner up against Mia Kanewischer and Elizabeth Roessler at No. 1 doubles. The Bucs took the victory, 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-2, although they lost a close battle to Waseca for the second set.
The No. 2 doubles match went to the Bluejays when Paige Dufault and Vivian Mader defeated BEA’s McKinley Hanson and Lauren Survis, 6-3, 6-3.
Sisters Addison and Erin Prescher won their match against Waseca’s Ashton Jenzen and Esme Pearce at No. 3 doubles, 6-0, 6-0.
