JCC too much for BEA football team to handle

Huskies use big second quarter to pull away from Buccaneers

Jackson County Central scored 43 points in the first half on their way to a 49-6 victory over the Blue Earth Area Bucs on Saturday night, Sept. 16.

The Huskies put up 14 points in the first quarter. Their first touchdown came at the 9:42 mark when Roman Voss ran the ball in from four yards out. Jack Sadusky’s kick sailed through the upright to give JCC a 7-0 lead.

The Huskies doubled their lead with 5:12 to play in the opening quarter when Ben Dahlin was on the receiving end of a 23-yard touchdown pass from JCC quarterback Brenan Runge. Sadusky added the extra point kick and the Huskies were up 14-0.

JCC’s next score came 14 seconds into the second quarter. This time quarterback Runge connected with Bryson Powers for a 59-yard touchdown. Sadusky’s kick was good and the Huskies led the Bucs 21-0.

With 9:50 left in the second quarter, Runge hit Voss with a touchdown pass that covered 44 yards. This time Sadusky ran the ball in for a two-point conversion which put JCC on top 29-0.

The Huskies added two more touchdowns in the second quarter, one on a 48-yard run by Seth Stai, and the other on a seven-yard run by Clay Malchow. Sadusky’s kicks were good after each score and JCC held a 43-0 halftime edge.

Neither team scored in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Huskies added another touchdown with 9:29 showing on the clock on a 49-yard run by Gage Johnson. The conversion failed.

The Bucs’ only score came with 4:10 remaining in the game when Jacob Grandgenett scampered 63 yards for a touchdown run. The extra-point kick failed and neither team scored the rest of the way with JCC winning by a final of 49-6.

JCC’s offense rolled up 232 yards running and 194 yards passing for 426 total offensive yards.

The Bucs had a total of 141 yards with 110 yards coming on the ground and 32 through the air.

JCC finished with 11 first downs to five for BEA.

The Huskies fumbled five times, but lost only one. The Bucs fumbled once but were able to recover their own fumble.

JCC was called for three penalties resulting in a loss of 29 yards while BEA was flagged five times for 54 yards.

Grandgenett was the leading rusher for BEA with 69 yards on two carries.

Max Loge was 4 of 13 passing for 25 yards.

Grandgenett had two pass receptions for 17 yards while Gage Barker caught two balls for eight yards.

Carson Meyers recovered a fumble for BEA.

BEA’s record dropped to 0-3 on the season while JCC, who has only allowed a total of 19 points in their first three games, remained unbeaten.

The Bucs played host to the Maple River Eagles for their homecoming game on Sept. 22, at Wilson Field.
