USC girls rack up two more wins in tennis
The United South Central girls tennis team toppled the Titans with a 4-3 win on Tuesday, Sept. 19.
Brylee Neubauer faced Tri-City United/Cleveland’s Ellie Adams at No. 1 singles and bested her opponent, 6-2, 6-2. Rebel Olivia Bungum also defeated Reagan Steffen at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1, and Maya Hansen defeated Titan Destynee Wolff, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 3 singles slot.
At No. 4 singles, Anne Cooper won her match against USC’s Eva Hernandez. Hernandez took the first set, 6-4, but the second and third sets went to Cooper, 6-4 and 6-1.
Rebels Addison Mithun and Lauren Hansen teamed up against Becca Sladek and Lily Martin at No. 1 doubles. The match went to USC, 6-0, 6-1.
Tri-City United/Cleveland took the No. 2 doubles match when Ava Flintrop and Avery Lerfald defeated USC’s Ivy O’Rourke and Julianna Clore, 7-6, 6-2. The Titans were also victorious at No. 3 doubles with Cristina Cruz and Addison Houn’s 6-4, 6-2 defeat of Claire Schimek and Kylee Koziolek.
The Rebels were scheduled to play Le Sueur-Henderson on Thursday, Sept. 21, and they are slated to play Redwood Valley on Saturday, Sept. 23.
USC will invite the Blue Earth Area Bucs over for a match on Monday, Sept. 25, and they will go up against Belle Plaine on Tuesday, Sept. 26.

The Rebels improved on an already-excellent season record during a match against Faribault Co-op on Saturday, Sept. 16. USC snatched a 4-3 victory from the Falcons.
No. 1 singles player Brylee Neubauer defeated Faribault’s Stacie Petricka, 6-4, 6-3. However, USC’s Olivia Bungum suffered a loss, 6-3, 6-2, to Lindsay Rauenhorst at No. 2 singles.
Maya Hansen turned the tables at No. 3 singles with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Falcon Leah Nowaczewski, and Eva Hernandez also defeated Faribault’s Beata Christianson at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-2.
Faribault started off doubles play with a win at the No. 1 slot. Hailey Reuvers and Grace Brazil won their match against Rebels Addison Mithun and Lauren Hansen in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
No. 2 doubles went to USC when Ivy O’Rourke and Julianna Clore defeated Falcons Gabbie Temple and Anika Sterling, 6-2, 6-4.
It was Faribault’s Whitney Huberty and Hannah Shepherd who tallied a win at No. 3 doubles against Claire Schimek and Caitlin Rheingans, 6-2, 6-0.
