Buc girls lose in semi-final tennis

After defeating River Valley 5-2 in quarterfinal round of Sections

The BEA girls tennis team saw their season come to an end at the Section Team Semifinals on Thursday, Oct. 5.

The No. 3-seeded Bucs were up against No. 2 seed Maple River. Maple River – fresh off of their 6-1 defeat of the USC Rebels in the Quarterfinals on Monday – edged out the Bucs by a narrow, 4-3 win to advance to the Finals on Oct. 5.

The Bucs won their three matches at No. 1 and No. 4 singles, and at No. 3 doubles. Representing BEA at No. 1 singles was Addison Armstrong, who pulled off a 6-1, 6-3 defeat over Maple River’s Ally Mersman.

Buc Abbey Lorenz also defeated Reagan Reuter at No. 4 singles. Lorenz lost the first set, 7-5, but staged a comeback in the second and third sets for two consecutive wins, 6-1 and 6-3.

Sisters Erin and Addison Prescher teamed up at No. 3 doubles, where they faced Maple River’s Norah Davis and Claire Langworthy. The Preschers won the match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.

Maple River also won two singles matches. Macy Sohre shut out Buc Olivia Dutton at No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 defeat, and Tabitha Barkosky defeated Grace Hanson, 6-4, 6-4.

Bucs Ashlyn Klinkner and Carol Schrader were defeated 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 by Ellie Braaten and Kelsey Jaeger at No. 1 doubles, while McKinley Hanson and Lauren Survis faced a 6-0, 6-4 loss to Maple River’s Brooke Reuter and Madison Ward at No. 2 doubles.

BEA 5, River Valley 2

The BEA girls tennis team faced River Valley in the Section Team Quarterfinals on Monday, Oct. 2. The Bucs’ 5-2 defeat of the Wildcats earned them a slot in the Semifinals to be held the following Thursday.

The Bucs and Wildcats secured two wins apiece in

singles action. It was BEA’s Addison Armstrong who triumphed over Taylor Berkner at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-1.

Olivia Dutton and River Valley’s Brissa Hernandez seemed evenly matched at No. 2 singles, but it was Hernandez who booked a win in two close sets, 6-3, 7-5.

Buc Grace Hanson secured a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Candela Pliego-Hernandez at No. 3 singles, but Wildcat Kiera Lafferty was the victor at No. 4 singles with her 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Abbey Lorenz.

BEA tore up the doubles court with three consecutive wins over River Valley. Bucs Carol Schrader and Ashlyn Klinkner teamed up against Erika Wells and Jillian Mays for a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles.

McKinley Hanson and Lauren Survis also won their No. 2 doubles match against Wildcats Gabby Anderson and Anna Rossbach in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.

BEA completed their doubles sweep at the No. 3 slot when Erin Prescher and Addison Prescher defeated Chloe Okerman and Emma Contreras-Ramirez, 6-1, 6-1.

BEA 7, Worthington 0

The Bucs swept the Worthington Trojans, 7-0, on Thursday, Sept. 28.

BEA’s Addison Armstrong started off a series of straight set wins at singles with her 6-3, 6-1 defeat of No. 1 singles player Hannah McNab. Olivia Dutton also defeated Worthington’s Sadie Nickel at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1.

Buc Grace Hanson won her No. 3 singles match against Taylor Michelson, 6-0, 6-1, and Lauren Survis defeated Trojan Eleanor Teerink at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-1.

Carol Schrader and Abbey Lorenz teamed up against Worthington’s Makayla Phouangphet and Angie Dailey at No. 1 doubles to secure a 6-1, 6-0 win for BEA.

At No. 2 doubles, it was Bucs McKinley Hanson and Grace Schavey who defeated Cassie Schulz and Tiana Garcia, 6-0, 6-1. No. 3 doubles saw Addison and Erin Prescher tally a win for BEA against Trojans Kah Blu Moo and Emma Hietbrink, 6-0, 6-0.
