Longhorns go 2-1 at quadrangular

Picked up wins against St. Clair/Mankato Loyola and Mankato East

The Maple River/United South Central Longhorns won two of their matches during a quadrangular wrestling meet at Mankato East High School on Tuesday, Dec. 5, but they lost their third one.

They defeated St. Clair-Mankato Loyola by a score of 54 to 15, and won 43 to 25 over host Mankato East. The Longhorns lost to the Eagles by a score of 45-15.

MR/USC 54, SCML 15

Against St. Clair-Mankato Loyola the Longhorns won several matches by forfeits.

Noah Gonzalez got things started at 107 pounds with a pin of Blake Shepperd. Bebo Getchell won by forfeit at 114 and Jace Ignaszewski won by forfeit at 121.

The Longhorns’ Eric Ridler won by a fall over Riley Vaughn at 127 pounds, Isaiah Gonzalez won by forfeit at 133, Braxton Simon won by forfeit at 139 and Wyatt Walters won by forfeit at 145.

SCML’s Brody Clinton defeated MR/USC’s Garrett Bollmann in a close match, 8-7, at 152 pounds and Kolt Bullerman lost by a fall at 160 to Chase Bade.

The Longhorns’ Byron Getchell won by a fall over Lucas Vaughn at 172, it was a double forfeit at 189, Max Fuller won by a fall over Steven Loeffler at 215.

SCML got the final match when Jacob Schimek won by a fall over Dizel Butler at 285 pounds.

MR/USC 43,

Mankato East 25

In the match against Mankato East, the Longhorns got off to a fast start with Noah Gonzalez winning by a fall at 107 pounds over Jackson Peed. MR/USC’s Bebo Getchell lost at 114 to Jackson Stensrud by a fall, and Jace Ignaszewski defeated Mankato East’s Nick Rosevold by a fall at 121. Eric Ridler lost a 9-0 major decision to Jackson Buboltz at 127.

The Longhorns got three wins at 133, 139 and 145 pounds. Isaiah Gonzalez won by forfeit at 133, Braxton Simon won by a fall over Colton Stehr at 139 and Wyatt Walters won by a pin over Max Fuller at 145.

Garrett Bollmann lost at 152 by 9-2 to the Cougars’ Bennett Blom and Kolt Bullerman lost by a fall at 160 to East’s Elliot Betz.

The Longhorns’ Byron Getchell took a 10-2 major decision over Luke Scholtes at 172 pounds, Gavin Bird lost by a pin to Max Morgan at 189, Max Fuller won by a fall over Jacob Downey and Dizel Butler won a 8-4 decision at 285 over Beck Severson.

New Ulm 45, MR/USC 15

The Maple River/United South Central Longhorns wrestling team took a loss when they went up against the New Ulm Eagles at the quadrangular last Tuesday.

The Longhorns got an early lead when Noah Gonzalez defeated Regan Johnson 5-1 at 107 pounds.

New Ulm won the next three matches with Bebo Getchell losing by a fall to Brayden Miller at 114 pounds, Jace Ignaszewski losing to Alex Portner by a fall at 121 and Eric Ridler losing by a fall to Kane Johnson at 127.

MR/USC got two wins in a row to get back into the contest.

Isaiah Gonzalez won 5-2 over Elijah Rieser at 133 pounds and Braxton Simon pinned Candon Briggs at 139.

The Longhorns’ Wyatt Walters lost an 8-2 decision to Winston Nienhaus at 145 pounds, Garrett Bollmann lost 4-0 to Logan Lee at 152 and Kolt Bullerman lost 7-0 to Lane Ruch at 160.

But MR/USC notched a win when Byron Getchell won a close decision, 1-0, over Wyatt Pollard at 172.

The Eagles won the last three matches, with Gavin Bird losing to Jamisen Fredericksen by a fall at 189 pounds, Max Fuller losing by a fall to Ehtan Lieb at 215 and Dizel Butler also losing by a fall at 285 to Evan Thompson.

WM/ML 44, MR/USC 21

The Maple River/United South Central Longhorns had a difficult match when they took on the Watertown-Mayer/Mayer Lutheran Royals on Saturday, Dec. 2, last week.

The final score was 44-21 in favor of the Royals. The Longhorns lost the first four matches, before coming back and winning the next three. They would only win two more in the match.

The Royals’ Sully Marx defeated the Longhorns’ Noah Gonzalez at 107 pounds by a pin. At 114 pounds Joel Friederichs won a 17-2 technical fall over Bebo Getchell. MR/USC’s Jace Ignaszewski lost by a fall to Titan Friederiches at 121 pounds, and WM/ML’s Kaleb Mead defeated Eric Ridler by a fall at 127 pounds.

Isaiah Gonzalez got the Longhorns on the scoreboard with a 7-3 win over Eli Hamberger at 133 pounds. Then at 139 pounds Braxton Simon of MR/USC took a 9-2 decision over Isaiah Mead and Wyatt Walters also won by a score of 9-2 over Karson Tufte.

MR/USC’s Garrett Bollmann lost a 4-0 decision to Parker Jackson at 152 pounds and at 160 pounds Kolt Bullerman lost to Jack Entinger by a fall.

Byron Getchell of the Longhorns got the team back on track with a forfeit at 172 pounds.

However, Max Fuller lost by a fall at 189 pounds to Levi Baumann and the Longhorns had to forfeit at 215 pounds.

MR/USC’s Dizel Butler ended the night’s scoring when he won by forfeit at 285 pounds.

The Longhorns’ next match was set for Tuesday, Dec. 5, at Mankato East. They were set to travel to New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva on Thursday, Dec. 7, and go to Chanhassen on Saturday, Dec. 9.
