By Chuck Hunt - Editor | Dec 10, 2023

The United South Central Rebels would jump off to a 10-3 lead to start the game, lead by 35-17 at the half, and go on to defeat the Rochester STEM Cobras 75-45 in boys basketball action.

The game was played on Saturday, Dec. 2, at home.

The Rebels were led by Blake Bullerman who scored three quick baskets inside and went on to score 12 of his game high 18 points in the first half.

The Rebels had four players in double figures for scoring. Besides Bullerman’s 18, Nathan Mutschler had 14 and Jonathan Stanke and Aiden Crabtree each added 11 points.

“Blake and Nathan and CJ Schumann were dominant inside all night as the Cobras had no answer for stopping our bigs,” coach Adam Walker said. “Jon Stanke and Dylan Bonsack were saddled with some early foul trouble but were big in pushing the tempo early on and getting STEM on their heels.”

The coach added that with the help of the Rebel guards knocking down some 3-pointers in the second half, the team continued to build up their lead.

As a team USC made 27 of 65 field goal attempts for 42 percent shooting from the floor. They were 22 of 47 for 2-pointers (47 percent) and 5 of 18 for 3-pointers (28 percent). They also made 16 of 31 free throw attempts for 52 percent shooting.

STEM was 15 of 51 from the floor (29 percent), 7 of 19 for 2-pointers (37 percent), 8 of 32 for 3-pointers (25 percent) and 7 of 16 for free throws (44 percent).

The Rebels had 46 rebounds to the Cobras’ 34, 18 assists to their five, eight steals to their three and 12 turnovers to their 24.

The Rebels were set to play Faribault Bethlehem Academy on Friday, Dec. 8, and Madelia on Saturday, Dec. 9.

Details on those games will be in the next week’s edition of the Faribault County Register.
