BEA loses close contest to WEM/JWP

Squad picked up their first win of the season against St. Clair/Loyola

The Blue Earth Area wrestling team hosted a triangular meet with Waterville-Elysian-Morristown/ Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton and Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial on Tuesday night, Dec. 12.

WEM/JWP 39, BEA 35

It was a battle between the WEM/JWP Buccaneers and the BEA Buccaneers and the winner was not decided until the last match.

Unfortunately for BEA, WEM/JWP pulled out the victory when they won by a pin at heavyweight.

WEM/JWP took the lead in the contest when BEA forfeited the 107-pound match.

Timmy Nagel needed just 45 seconds to pin Bre’Ana Masso in the 114-pound weight category and tie the score at 6-6.

BEA’s Drake Engelby received a forfeit at 121 pounds to momentarily give the home team a 12-6 lead.

WEM/JWP then recorded pins at 127, 133 and 139 pounds to go on top 24-12.

An 18-2 technical fall by BEA’s Cooper Peterson over Zach Quast at 145 pounds cut WEM/JWP’s lead to 24-17.

In the 152-pound match, the only points came in the first period when Lucas Morsching of WEM/JWP scored a takedown on Ethan Oppedal. Morsching’s 2-0 victory extended the visitors’ lead to 27-17.

WEM/JWP recorded another

fall at 160 pounds to go on top 33-17.

Three consecutive first-period pins by the Maroon and Gold allowed BEA to take a 35-33 lead. Kade Gaydon pinned Isaac Quast in 28 seconds at 172 pounds. Tristan Tungland earned a fall over Aiden Anderson in 31 seconds at 189 pounds and Cory Kitchel needed only 17 seconds to put Maddox Moreno’s shoulders to the mat at 215 pounds.

Keegan Kuball of WEM/JWP was able to pin Dalton Ely in the 285-pound match to secure the 39-35 victory for WEM/JWP.

LCWM 54, BEA 17

The Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial Knights, picked by many to be the top team in Section 2A, lost only three matches while defeating the Blue Earth Area Bucs 54-17 in the final contest of the evening.

Cooper Peterson picked up five points for the Bucs with a 17-1 technical fall over Noah Sodeman in the 145-pound match.

BEA’s Caleb Langager received a forfeit in the 160-pound match and Kade Gaydon pinned Nathan Sickler in 1:12 in the 172-pound match to account for the Bucs’ three victories.

Earlier in the evening, LCWM was victorious over WEM/JWP 50-18.

St. Clair/Loyola

Triangular

The Bucs picked up their first win of the season at the St. Clair/Loyola Triangular meet on Saturday, Dec. 9.

BEA 39,

St. Clair/Loyola 27

The Bucs forfeited the opening match at 107 pounds but BEA’s 114-pounder Timmy Nagel cut the Cyclones’ lead in half with a 13-7 decision over Blake Sheppard.

Drake Engelby put BEA in the lead with a pin over Braydon Won in 56 seconds at 121 pounds.

Trailing 9-6, the Cyclones regained the lead at 12-9 with a pin at 127 pounds.

Colton Tolzmann picked up six points for the Bucs when he received a forfeit in the 133-pound match. Layden Bassett extended BEA’s lead to 21-12 when he pinned Ty Romnes in 5:10 in the 139-pound match.

The Bucs increased their lead to 27-12 when Emanuel Granillo received a forfeit at 145 pounds.

A pin in 3:42 by Cooper Peterson over Brody McClinton increased BEA’s lead to 33-12.

The Cyclones earned a decision at 160 pounds and a fall at 172 pounds to cut the Bucs’ lead to 33-21.

Kade Gaydon received a forfeit at 189 pounds to make the score 39-21 in favor of BEA.

There was no match at 215 pounds and St. Clair/Loyola won the 285-pound match by a fall to make the final score 39-27 in favor of BEA.

Wabasso 45, BEA 30

Pins by Timmy Nagel at 114 pounds, Cooper Peterson at 145 pounds, Caleb Langager at 160 pounds, Tristan Tungland at 172 pounds and a forfeit to Kade Gaydon at 189 pounds accounted for all of the Bucs’ points.

Wabasso earned their points with one forfeit, six pins and one decision to win the contest 45-30 over BEA.
