Buc girls fall to Windom and Fairmont

BEA’s Erika Gaydon got all ball and blocked a shot by a Fairmont player when the two teams met in Blue Earth on Dec. 15. The Cards would go on to defeat BEA 87-50.
The Windom Area Eagles defeated the host Blue Earth Area Buccaneers 84-51 in girls basketball on Tuesday, Dec. 19.
The taller, stronger Eagles were able to dominate the game inside the lane as evidenced by their 54 points scored in the paint and their 51-30 edge in rebounding.
The Bucs, who trailed 60-25 at the half, outscored the Eagles 26-24 in the second half.
BEA’s backcourt tandem of Kate Armon and Lola Lundquist combined for 29 points. Armon finished with 15 while Lundquist added 14. Ashlyn Klinkner tallied seven points while Erika Gaydon and Jessica Moore each added five. Ruby Allis had three points and Madelyn Ferguson had two to complete BEA’s scoring.
Klinkner led the team in rebounding with six while Armon and Lundquist led the team in assists with four each.
Fairmont 87, BEA 50
The Bucs handled the Cardinals’ press but had a hard time dealing with their height disadvantage and Fairmont defeated Blue Earth Area 87-50 on the Bucs’ home court on Dec. 15.
“We played well against their press and Fairmont ended up taking it off,” BEA coach Chris Voss said.
Fairmont’s trio of Brylee Miller, Grace Pendergast and Nevaeh Rahm used their size and strength to combine for 60 of their team’s 80 points.
The Bucs shot the ball well during the game, hitting 40 percent of their shots from both inside and outside of the arc.
While the Cardinals only shot 31 percent on their 3-point attempts, they made 61 percent of their 2-point shots with 60 of their points coming from inside the paint.
Kate Armon hit seven of her 12 shots from inside the arc and was 2-for-3 shooting 3-pointers. She added one free throw to lead the Bucs with 21 points. Lola Lundquist finished with 20 points while going 7-for-19 from 2-point range and 3-for-8 on 3-pointers.
Armon led BEA in rebounds with eight.
The Bucs played host to United South Central on Thursday, Dec. 21 and will return to action on their home floor against Sibley East on Friday, Dec. 29, at 5 p.m.
