Longhorns take eighth place in Ethan Herman Memorial Tourney
The Maple River/United South Central Longhorns wrestling team traveled to Chanhassen on Saturday, Dec. 9, and took eighth place out of 17 teams at the Ethan Herman Memorial Wrestling Tournament.
MR/USC scored 78 points, while first place Chaska-Chanhassen had 194 points.
The Longhorns had five wrestlers crack into the top six spots, when one wrestler took second place, one took third and three of their teammates placed fourth.
Byron Getchell took second place in the 172 pound weight class when he lost 9-4 in the championship match to Daunte Sasse-Doering of Elk River.
Noah Gonzalez, at 107 pounds, took third place when he defeated Austin Peterson of Ellsworth 5-2 in the match for third.
The Longhorns’ Isaiah Gonzalez took fourth place when he lost a 7-3 decision to Dane Krull of Chaska-Chanhassen in the battle for third place at 133 pounds.
At 139 pounds, MR/USC’s Braxton Simon also ended in fourth place when he lost a hard-fought, very close 10-9 decision to Dino Tokin of Woodbury.
And, at 145 pounds, Longhorn Wyatt Walters lost by a 13-8 decision to Jameson Kulseth of Osseo in the third place bout, and ended up in fourth place, also.
