Longhorns defeat Giants and Cobras
But are defeated 35-27 by the Mound-Westonka White Hawks
The Maple River/United South Central Longhorns wrestling team hosted their own quadrangular wrestling meet on Saturday, Dec. 23.
The Longhorns defeated the Le Sueur-Henderson Giants by a score of 51-14, but lost 35-27 to the Mound-Westonka White Hawks.
MR/USC 51, LSH 14
Against the Giants, the Longhorns jumped out to a lead with a win by a fall by Noah Gonzalez over William Osborne at 107 pounds, with Bebo Getchell’s win by forfeit at 114 and with a win by a fall by Jace Ignaszewski over Nate Lansing.
MR/USC’s Uriah Fuller lost by a fall to Waylon Thielke at 127. However, Longhorn Isaiah Gonzalez won by forfeit at 133 pounds, Braxton Simon won by a fall over Nick Larson at 139 and Wyatt Walters won by a fall over Isaac Holloway at 145.
MR/USC’s Garrett Bollmann lost a 6-3 decision at 152 pounds to Mason Johnson. However, Kolt Bullerman won a 14-11 decision over Luke Miller of LSH at 160 and Byron Getchell defeated Sam Wagner by a fall at 172.
At 189 pounds LSH’s Peyton Tellijohn won by a 17-0 technical fall over Max Fuller, and at 215 MR/USC’s Dizel Butler won by a fall over Carter Nelson. There was a double forfeit at 285.
M-W 35, MR/USC 27
The Longhorns fell behind 3-0 when Noah Gonzalez lost a very close 4-3 decision to Deacon Ramthun at 107 pounds.
However, Bebo Getchell got a forfeit at 114 pounds and Jace Ignaszewski scored a 9-7 win over Levi Hays at 121 and MR/USC was up 9-3.
The White Hawks came back with a win at 127 when Carson Crandall got another close, 5-4 decision over Longhorn Uriah Fuller, then with a 6-0 win by Cole Munsterteiger of M-W over Isaiah Gonzalez, and the match was tied at 9-9.
Braxton Simon won by a pin at 139 pounds over Gabe Brown and MR/USC led 15-9.
Jack Nelson of M-W won by a technical fall over Wyatt Walters of MR/USC at 145 pounds and Al Zuniga-Lopez downed Garrett Bollmann 12-8 at 152 and the Longhorns were behind 17-15.
They would increase their lead over MR/USC when Cooper Rowe won by a fall over Kolt Bullerman at 160 pounds and it was 23-15.
The Longhorns got close with a pin by Byron Getchell over Eric von Holtz at 172 pounds, making it 23-21 White Hawks.
Max Fuller of the Longhorns lost by a fall to Dawson Leinfelder at 189 pounds and MR/USC forfeited at 215, so M-W was up 35-21 with a match to go.
Dizel Butler got a fall over Phillip Pisarchuk at 285 pounds, making the final 35-27, White Hawks.
MR/USC 38, Triton 30
The Maple River/United South Central Longhorns’ wrestling team led all the way, but it was a very close match when they wrestled the Triton Cobras on Friday, Dec. 22. The final score was 38-30 in favor of the Rebels.
Noah Gonzalez put the team up 5-0 when he scored a 15-0 technical fall over Jaxon Jensen at 107 pounds. Triton came back for a 9-4 decision when Theo Kispert defeated Bebo Getchell at 114, making it 5-3. It became 11-3 when Jace Ignaszewski won by forfeit at 121.
Triton would get the next points when Alex Ortiz won by a fall over Uriah Fuller at 127 and the score was 11-9.
However, the Longhorns would win the next three matches. Isaiah Gonzalez won by a forfeit at 133 pounds, as did Braxton Simon at 139 and Brayden Mithun at 145. That made the score 29-9.
Triton would make a run with three wins of their own. Wyatt Walters of MR/USC lost by a fall to Hunter Garness at 152, Garett Bollmann lost a 3-0 decision to Cole Kadada at 160 and Kolt Bullerman lost by a fall to Austan Adreon at 172.
Now the score stood at 29-24, with the Longhorns still in the lead.
Byron Getchell would put MR/USC up 35-24 with a pin of Austin Scanlan at 189 pounds. But Max Fuller lost by a fall at 215 pounds to Alex Nase.
That made it 35-30, and the Tritons could win with a pin at 285. They would not get it. Dizel Butler took a 7-1 decision over John Moenning at 285 to secure the win at 38-30.
