Martin County records eight falls to triumph over Blue Earth Area

It was a tough night for the Blue Earth Area wrestling team when they played host to the Martin County Red Bulls on Thursday, Dec. 21. Though the Bucs took an early lead, the Red Bulls went home with a 58-15 victory.

The Bucs were without the services of Cooper Peterson and Kade Gaydon who were out with injuries.

Martin County’s Brock Jagodzinske received a forfeit at 107 pounds to give the Red Bulls a 6-0 lead but BEA’s Timmy Nagel received a forfeit at 114 pounds to tie the score at 6-6.

Drake Engelby gave the Bucs a 12-6 lead when he pinned Adam Denson in 20 seconds.

A first-period pin by Martin County’s Pierce Rohman against Logan Shelstad in the 127-pound weight category tied the score at 12-12.

BEA regained the lead momentarily when 133-pounder Colton Tolzmann earned a close 6-5 decision over Seth Siebring. The victory by Tolzmann put the Bucs on top 15-12.

Unfortunately for BEA, that was the end of their scoring.

At 139 pounds, Martin County’s Evan Welcome pinned Layden Bassett to put the visitors on top 18-15.

The Red Bulls’ Maddex Faber pinned Ethan Oppedal at 145 pounds to increase their advantage to 24-15.

Martin County went up 30-15 when Berent Kosbab pinned Emanuel Granillo in the 152-pound match.

Ty Kolbe added six more points to the Red Bulls’ score to increase their lead to 36-15 by pinning Caleb Langager at 160 pounds.

A 13-5 major decision win at 172 pounds by Caleb Chambers over Will Weerts gave Martin County a 40-15 lead.

Hunter Johnson pinned Tristan Tungland at 189 pounds to extend the Red Bulls’ advantage to 46-15.

A pin by David Miller over Cory Kitchel in the 215-pound match made the score 52-15 in favor of Martin County.

The Red Bulls added their final six points of the night when Colby Schwichtenberg produced a first-period fall over Chase Gambell to give Martin County the 58-15 victory.
