Longhorns have one first place and four second place finishers
The Maple River/United South Central Longhorns had one first place finish and five second place wrestlers on their way to a third place team finish at the Tri-City United Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 6.
The Longhorns’ score of 78.5 just edged out Le Sueur-Henderson’s 76.5 to claim third and put LSH in fourth place.
Taking first place was Fairmont-Martin County West with 104.0, and in second was Mankato East at 100.5. Host TCU was fifth with 69.5 and Sibley East was sixth at 32.0.
MR/USC’s Wyatt Walters was the Longhorn who took first, at 145 pounds.
He defeated Nathan Blascko of Tri-City United 9-4 in the championship match.
Noah Gonzalez, at 107 pounds, was one of the four Longhorn wrestlers to claim second place. He lost a 7-4 decision to Jackson Stensrud of Mankato East in the championship match.
Isaiah Gonzalez also took second, in the 127 pound bracket. He lost 10-4 to Colton Wilson in the championship match.
Also taking second was Braxton Simon at 139 pounds. Simon lost a 9-0 major decision in the match for first place.
At 172 pounds, Byron Getchell lost a two-overtime 4-1 decision to Taylor Austin of Fairmont-Martin County West in the battle for the championship.
Dizel Butler took second place at 215 pounds when he lost by a fall to George Doherty of Le Sueur-Henderson.
MR/USC’s Brayden Mithun was the lone Longhorn to get a third place finish. He defeated Christian Sotelo of Sibley East by a pin in the match for third place at 133 pounds.
Placing fourth at the tournament were Longhorns Bebo Getchell at 114 pounds, Garrett Bollmann at 152 and Kolt Bullerman at 160. Max Fuller, at 189 pounds, finished in fifth place.
