Longhorns go 1-2 at Davis Duals in Owatonna

The Maple River/United South Central Longhorns competed in the Davis Duals held in Owatonna on Saturday, Jan. 20. The Longhorns fell to the host Owatonna Huskies and the Adrian Area Dragons but triumphed over the Fulda/Murray County Central Warriors to finish the day with a 1-2 record.
Owatonna 48,
MR/USC 13
The Huskies won the first five matches and took a 21-0 lead on their way to a 48-13 triumph over the Longhorns. MR/USC did not score until the 139-pound match when Wyatt Walters pinned Trevor Townley in 1:52.
The Longhorns also picked up a win at 152 pounds when Garrett Bollman won by a 9-2 decision over Nathan Gronli and at 172 pounds with ninth-ranked Byron Getchell wrestling to a 12-3 major decision over RJ Reinardy.
Adrian Area 36,
MR/USC 19
Noah Gonzalez gave the Longhorns the early 6-0 lead when he pinned Logan Graham at 107 pounds. The Dragons scored three team points in the 114-pound match when David Anaya won by a 9-6 decision over MR/USC’s Getchell.
Adrian Area took a 9-6 lead when Moe Erdman scored a fall over Jace Ignaszewski at 121 pounds. The Longhorns’ Isaiah Gonzalez decisioned Travis Weiss 5-2 at 127 pounds to tie the score at 9-9, but the Dragons moved ahead 15-9 when Charger Erlandson pinned Brayden Mithun in the 133-pound match.
In the 139-pound match, Braxton Simon won by an 8-0 major decision over Jackson Jenniges to cut Adrian Area’s advantage to 15-13, and a 5-0 decision by the Longhorns’ Wyatt Walters over Jesse Bullerman at 145 pounds put MR/USC back on top by a 16-15 score.
The Dragons regained an 18-16 lead when Caleb Wolf won a 4-0 decision over Garrett Bollmann at 152 pounds. The lead swung back to MR/USC at 19-18 when Byron Getchell won a close 3-2 decision over Rilee Heidebrink in the 160-pound match.
Adrian Area took the lead for good at 21-19 when Garrett Penning won the 172-pound match with a 6-4 decision over Kolt Bullerman. The Dragons made it 27-19 when Reese Morrison earned a fall over Max Fuller at 189 pounds and added three more points to their total with a 5-2 decision by Roberto Hernandez over Dizel Butler at 215 pounds. Adrian Area’s last six points came when they received a forfeit in the 285-pound match to make the final score 36-19.
MR/USC 31, F/MCC 26
Maple River/USC led throughout most of the contest against Fulda/Murray County Central, but found themselves trailing by one point heading into the final match. The Longhorns sent Dizel Butler out to wrestle at 285 pounds and he received a forfeit to give MR/USC the 31-26 victory.
Noah Gonzalez gave the Longhorns a 4-0 lead with a 19-7 major decision over Mason Kirchner in the 107-pound match. A 10-3 decision by Kaston Clarke of the Warriors over Bebo Getchell at 114 pounds made the score 4-3.
Jace Ignaszewski’s 11-0 major decision over Truman Olsem at 121 pounds increased MR/USC’s lead to 8-3. An 18-3 technical fall by Isaiah Gonzalez of the Longhorns over Brayden Gilb at 127 pounds made the score 13-3 in favor of MR/USC.
F/MCC closed the gap to 13-7 when Teague Meyer scored a 12-2 major decision over Brayden Mithun at 133 pounds but the Longhorns’ Braxton Simon’s 10-8 decision over Denver Ash at 139 pounds made the score 16-7 with MR/USC on top.
A 12-5 decision by Wyatt Walters over Aiden Lorenzen of F/MCC at 145 pounds increased the Longhorns’ advantage to 19-7.
Wins by the Warriors in the 152 and 160-pound weight matches made the score 19-14 with the Longhorns still in the lead. At 152 pounds, Quintin Lewis won by a 17-5 major decision over Garrett Bollmann. In the 160-pound match, F/MCC’s Owen Olsen won by a 9-2 decision over Kolt Bullerman.
Byron Getchell’s pin of Luke Iverson at 172 pounds boosted MR/USC’s lead to 25-14.
The Warriors received a forfeit at 189 pounds to make the score 25-20 with the Longhorns still in control.
However, F/MCC took their first lead of the contest at 26-25 when Colby Kesteloot won by a fall over Max Fuller before MR/USC’s Butler won the 285-pound match by a forfeit to secure the 31-26 triumph for the Longhorns.
