Longhorns host Takedown on 22 Invite
After defeating the Westfield Razorbacks 45-21 in dual meet action
The Maple River/United South Central Longhorns wrestling team claimed three second place finishes, one fourth and one fifth place finish at their own Takedown on 22 Invitational Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 3, in Mapleton.
At 107 pounds, Noah Gonzalez took second place when he lost by an 11-1 major decision to Kaden Lindquist of Owatonna in the championship match.
Gonzalez had first downed Elijah Lofton of New Prague 10-3, then took a 4-0 victory over Cooper Mack of Plainview-Elgin-Millville in Round 2, and won a 12-1 major decision over Dhari Al-Sattam of Sibley East in Round 3.
Another second place finisher was Isaiah Gonzalez at 127 pounds. He lost in the championship match by a fall to Lane Karsten of Owatonna to end in second place.
Gonzalez received a bye in the first round, then won by an 18-2 technical fall in Round 2 over Tucker Binner of Plainview-Elgin-Millville. In the semifinal round he won by a medical forfeit over Colton Wilson of Le Sueur-Henderson.
Also placing second in the tournament was Byron Getchell at 160 pounds. He lost by a tiebreaker, 5-4, to Shafer Ehmke of Mankato West in the championship match.
Getchell received a bye in the first round, then won by a fall over Parker Hanson of Tri-City United in Round 2. In Round 3 he won by a 6-1 decision over Seth Stai of Jackson County Central.
The Longhorns’ fourth place finisher was Wyatt Walters at 145 pounds. He lost to Brandon Michel of New Prague in the match for third place.
The fifth place finisher was Braxton Simon at 139 pounds. In the match for fifth place Simon pinned Parker Casas of Owatonna. Simon also pinned Casas in the quarterfinals round, before they eventually faced off again in the fifth place match.
MR/USC 45, Westfield 21
The Maple River/United South Central Longhorns hosted the Westfield Razorbacks on Thursday, Feb. 1, and came away with a big 45-21 victory.
The Longhorns were never behind in the match.
Noah Gonzalez got things going with a 16-3 major decision over Derek Miner at 107 pounds. Bebo Getchell lost 8-2 to Kevin Hodge at 114 and the score was 4-3, as close as it would be the rest of the way.
The Longhorns’ Jace Ignaszewski won by a fall over Kaiden Chicos at 121 pounds and Isaiah Gonzalez won by a technical fall, 18-2, at 127 and MR/USC was up 15-3.
Brayden Mithun lost by a fall to Bo Zwiener at 133 pounds and it was then MR/USC on top 15-9, but the Longhorns won the next six matches to go up 45-9.
Waylon Simon won 8-4 over Cayden Maly at 139, Braxton Simon won by a fall over Chase Kiser at 145, Wyatt Walters won by a fall at 152 over Gage Mullenbach, Garrett Bollmann won by a fall over Kael Steele at 160, Kolt Bullerman also won by a fall over Chris Niemann at 172 and Byron Getchell won a 6-2 decision over Alex Lea at 189.
MR/USC’s Dizel Butler lost by a fall to Ty Bronson at 215 pounds and the Longhorns had to forfeit at 285 which made the final score 45-21.
