Longhorns tame the Tigers
MR/USC dominates Medford in 57-18 win
The Maple River/United South Central Longhorns wrestling team had little trouble with the Medford Tigers on Thursday, Feb. 8, as they defeated them by a score of 57-18.
The Longhorns got off to a 12-0 start when Noah Gonzalez at 107 pounds and Bebo Getchell at 114 both won by forfeits.
At 121 pounds Jace Ignaszewski of MR/USC lost by a fall, but the Longhorns would win the next five matches.
Isaiah Gonzalez won by a fall over Evan Noble at 127 pounds, Brayden Mithun won by a 7-1 decision over James Wegner at 133, Braxton Simon won by a fall over Tanner Milewski at 139, Wyatt Walters won by a forfeit at 145 and Garrett Bollmann won by forfeit at 152.
At 160 pounds Andrew Braaten of MR/USC lost by a fall to Tommy Elwood, but the Longhorns would win the next three matches.
Longhorn Byron Getchell won by a fall over Chase Balzer at 172, Max Fuller won by a forfeit at 189 and Dizel Butler won by a fall over Conor Wilson at 215.
MR/USC forfeited at 285 pounds.
The Longhorns traveled to Mound Westonka High School on Thursday, Feb. 15, to compete in the opening rounds of the Section 2AA Team Tournament.
The semifinal and final round of the tournament was held on Saturday, Feb. 17, at Glencoe/Silver Lake High School.
