BEA fifth graders are MYAS State Champions

The smiles on the faces of these Blue Earth Area basketball players are the result of their team winning the MYAS State Basketball Tournament. Members of the team are, left to right, Ben Roper, Clark Lundquist, Drake Ertman, Garrett Hauskins, Mason Schonrock, Coach Matt Schonrock, Jase Juba and Karter Schonrock.

The fifth grade boys Blue Earth Area basketball team traveled to Rosemount, Minnesota, to compete in the Fifth Grade MYAS (Minnesota Youth Athletic Services) State Basketball Tournament on March 2 and 3.

When the tournament was over, BEA had outscored their four opponents 192-118 while winning all four games.

The boys started out the tournament by beating Mounds View 54-26. In the quarterfinals, the Buc boys earned another victory over Moorhead 46-42. In the semifinals, BEA defeated Rosemount 49-26 to make it to the championship game. The Bucs won over Lakeville North 43-24, claiming the championship title for the third year in a row.

The Bucs ended the season by placing first in four tournaments and having a 27-3 record.
