The United South Central boys golf team is off to a 2-0 start after gaining a victory on Tuesday, April 9, over Alden-Conger.

The Rebels came in with a score of 172, while Alden Conger carded a team tally of 189. The meet was held at the Oak View Golf Course near Freeborn.

USC secured the top three spots on the leaderboard, with senior Kadyn Neubauer shooting a two-over par 38 and gaining his first medalist honors of the season.

Senior Blake Bullerman finished in second place with a score of 42 and sophomore Brennan Olson finished in third place with a score of 45.

The fourth team score was carded by senior Brennan Anderson who finished tied for sixth place with a score of 47.

Other varsity team members were Jon Stanke who came in with a score of 50, and junior Mason Schrader who shot a 52.

Six JV boys also golfed in the meet as well. Grayson Husfeldt shot a 57, Dylan Parks had a 59, Jaxon Hart had a 60, Octavio Hernandez and Harrison Chandler both shot 62 and Colten Husfeldt had 66.

The varsity boys’ next meet was set for Friday, April 12, when they will play at the Springfield Golf Club against Springfield, Sleepy Eye United and Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart.

This week the team is scheduled to play Tuesday at Madelia and Thursday at Blooming Prairie.

USC Girls 265,

Alden-Conger 260

The United South Central girls golf team also played at Oak View Golf Course on Tuesday, April 9, against Alden-Conger.

The Rebels lost by five strokes, 260 to 265.

USC’s Emma Heggen was the medalist with her first place score of 52.

Eva Hernandez was in fourth place with her score of 66. Karly Koehler shot a 68 and was tied for sixth place. Angelica Hernandez shot a 79 and was in 10th place.

Three JV golfers also participated in the meet. Freshman Madi Meyer shot 67, junior Lauren Hansen shot 71 and senior Emma Van Bourgonje, a foreign exchange student who is from the Caribbean, shot 72. All three girls are new to the game of golf and the USC golf program, says USC golf coach Brad Heggen.

USC’s next varsity girls’ golf meet was set for Friday, April 12 at the Springfield Golf Club, where they will face Springfield, Sleepy Eye United and Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart.

This week the girls team will travel to Madelia on Tuesday and Blooming Prairie on Thursday.
