USC girls improve to 3-0 in softball
Anderson gives up only one run in notching two more victories
USC’s Mariah Anderson only gave up one run while pitching two games on April 6. USC won both games.
The United South Central Rebels’ softball team had a good game hitting the ball when they played Cleveland on Saturday, April 6, while also shutting down the Cleveland bats.
The Rebels outscored the Clippers 7-1 to notch the victory.
USC scored one run in the first inning, one in the third, then scored two each in the fourth and fifth innings, while tacking on one more in the sixth.
Cleveland, meanwhile, scored their only run in the bottom of the fourth.
The Rebels got their seven runs on 10 hits, all of them singles. Taylor Schroeder and Olivia Bungum led the way with two hits each.
Mariah Anderson, Kendal Harpestad, Brylee Neubauer, Lily Lutteke, Alivia Bruegger and Carissa Hanson each had one hit.
Cleveland had two hits in the game, one of them a double.
Anderson pitched all seven innings and gave up the one run on the two hits. She issued no walks and struck out 16 batters.
USC 6, Nicollet 0
The United South Central Rebels actually played two games in Cleveland last Saturday, April 6. In the first game, the Rebels took on the Nicollet Raiders and came out on top 6-0.
USC had seven hits in the game, all singles, as well as four walks. The Raiders also had four errors.
Getting two hits each for USC were Brylee Neubauer and Carissa Hanson. Taylor Schroeder, Alivia Bruegger and Ivy O’Rourke each had one hit.
The Rebels scored one run in both the first and second innings, for an early 2-0 lead. They added three more runs in the fourth inning and one additional run in the sixth.
Mariah Anderson went all seven innings for the Rebels, allowing no runs or hits, issuing one walk and striking out 20 Raider batters.
The USC Rebels’ game set for Monday, April 8, against Medford, was postponed.
The Rebels were also scheduled to play Thursday, April 11, at NRHEG and on Friday, April 12, at Glenville-Emmons.
This week the Rebels are set to play Martin County West at home on Monday, April 15, and GHEC at Truman on Thursday, April 18.
